In this session with our girls from Kelly Middle School, our discussion focused on stress — what it is, the many things that can cause it, and how it can affect our emotions, mental health, and even our bodies. The girls shared thoughtful insights and personal experiences, with many mentioning fidgeting as one way stress shows up for them.

To end the session with a hands-on activity, the girls created their own stress balls as a healthy tool they can use during stressful moments. The room was filled with creativity, laughter, and meaningful conversation.

What the Girls Had to Say:
“Making these is so much fun and it’s going to be great to squeeze when I need it.”

“I might make one for my little brother so I can give it to him when he’s stressing me out.”

Moments like these remind us how important it is to create safe spaces where girls can openly talk about their emotions while learning healthy coping skills.

This week, our girls participated in a follow-up session focused on reinforcing confidence, self-care, and understanding the changes that come with growing up. 💕

The sessions created space for questions, encouragement, honest conversations, and continued growth as the girls continue building self-awareness and confidence in themselves.

We are proud of the way our girls continue to show up, support one another, and grow through every conversation and activity. Creating safe spaces where girls feel seen, heard, and empowered will always matter.

A huge THANK YOU to Ascend Bank for supporting our Young Women’s Leadership Day and helping make the Career Exploration experience possible for our girls💚

Because of community partners like Ascend Bank, our girls had the opportunity to connect, learn, ask questions, and explore future possibilities in a positive and encouraging environment.

When asked what they liked BEST about the day, some of the girls shared:

✨ “I liked the career exploration because it was super fun.”

Sometimes healing looks like finally choosing yourself 💕

One of our girls shared:
“STEPS helped me learn how to love myself and not put others before me.”

Moments like this remind us why safe spaces, honest conversations, and empowerment matter so much 🌸

Last week, our girls from Kelly Middle School put the finishing touches on the beautiful plates they painted for Mother’s Day 💐🎨

But as always at STEPS, the conversations shared around the table were just as meaningful as the activity itself.

During painting, the girls were asked:
“Do you have any bad habits you want to break?”

Honestly, I expected answers like biting nails or staying up too late… but these girls went deeper.

One student shared:
“When I get angry or upset I get quiet. I need to learn to talk to someone.”

Moments like these are a reminder of how self-aware, thoughtful, and emotionally honest our girls are becoming. Creating safe spaces for conversation, creativity, and connection matters more than words can explain.

Student Quote:
“What a great way to end this week - painting and talking. I love coming to STEPS!”

This session, our girls participated in meaningful conversations about growing up, body changes, and understanding periods in a safe, supportive, and age-appropriate environment. Through interactive activities, movement-based discussions, and real-life scenarios, they were encouraged to ask questions, build confidence, and understand that the changes they experience are completely normal.

Our focus was on self-awareness, confidence, and reminding each girl that growing up is not something to fear or feel embarrassed about — it’s a natural part of becoming who they are.

We took the girls outside for some fresh air and self-care with physical activity. We all had a ball!

Creating spaces where girls feel safe, informed, heard, and supported matters. 💜

Student Quotes & Key Takeaways:
“I know that I can go to an adult in a feminine emergency and know this is supposed to happen.”

“I can confidently talk about my period.”
