Maggie is currently a sophomore at Miami University and is a pre-med student. She has a passion for helping others and hopes to one day work in a children's hospital because of the amazing resilience she has witnessed in children who are in the hospital. Through Courageous Soles, she hopes to lift the spirits of those in the hospital and to form connections that will help her one day become a bett
er physician. Elizabeth is a senior at Grosse Pointe South High School and has been a "frequent flyer" at CS Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI for nearly 6 years, thanks to her multiple autoimmune diseases. She has experienced how challenging it is to be a teenager in a hospital built for children. Teens are often forgotten about in children's hospitals, as when people think "children's hospital" they think of young kids, not teenagers. Even the donations of goodies Mott receives are generally geared for little kids. Courageous Soles aims to provide comfort to the teens at Mott who may be inpatient, in the infusion clinic, ER, outpatient clinics, etc. One thing that has helped Elizabeth cope with extended inpatient stays or long days in the infusion clinic is wearing wacky socks. We're talking superhero chickens, cows being abducted by UFOs, "purritos", otters hold hands, and other craziness. Not only do the socks make her smile, but they bring smiles to all who see them. Courageous Soles will be collecting wacky socks to deliver to Mott during the holidays to hopefully bring some smiles to teens in the midst of their battles. You can purchase socks from our Amazon Wishlist (https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1Q3D6PT3YOG4L). Your purchase will be delivered straight to Courageous Soles and later taken to Mott. If you personally know Maggie or Elizabeth, you can drop off socks to them. Remember, the wackier, the better (fuzzy socks are also appreciated). Target (my personal favorite), Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, dollar stores, and Walmart all have cheap, fun socks. And a reminder that we need both adult and kids sizes, as teenagers feet come in every size! Thank you so much for your support! It means a lot to us, and to the teens at Mott!
