Please join us this Saturday, September 21st for our annual St. Vincent de Paul - Fundraiser and Walk with our Neighbors, on Belle Isle.
9:00 a.m. Registration 10:00 Walk starts
Everyone is welcome for a leisurely 3 mile walk around the beautiful park with our team.
St. Vincent dePaul assists those who have emergency financial needs regardless of their religious affiliation. Ninety-five percent of the people we serve live in the city of Detroit. The real problem is poverty. Many of the people we serve are elderly and living on a Social Security income of about $750 a month. Many of our families are headed by working people and work for minimum wage or low wage jobs, often without benefits. If they have children, they may receive food support but no other help from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Last month our St. Ambrose Conference provided over $8000 to support our neighbors. Half of that amount was for housing assistance to keep 7 families from homelessness,$1800 in food vouchers for 30 people to help from going hungry, the balance for beds, utility bills, appliances, food and clothing. We can also provide bus tickets and an occasional gas card.
We are grateful to be able to help most of those who call us because of the generosity of our donors.
