Project Hope Michigan

Project Hope Michigan In 2014, a family rallied around an uncle with cancer. Their prayers and hope led to the creation of Project Hope.

Each year the project selects an individual/family to donate money to who are affected by cancer through sponsorship and 5k/benefit dinner.

Meet This Year’s Guest Speaker: Jack Krasula!

Jack Krasula is in the “Encouragement” business. Every Saturday evening, he blasts out a one-hour dose of encouragement called Anything is Possible! on WJR Radio from Detroit. He does it by helping his guests tell their incredible stories of achievement against all odds, usually giving God the credit. Jack has hosted astronauts, Miss Americas, CEOs, inventors, Hall of Fame athletes, actors, U.S. senators, philanthropists, accomplished preachers, and many others who are lesser known – but whose stories are just as amazing.

Jack’s own story is pretty amazing itself. The son of a mailman from the South Side of Chicago, Jack is a self-made man who started a computer services firm out of a spare bedroom in his apartment in Detroit. Over the next 26 years he built Decision Consultants, Inc. into a $150 million company with 1,800 employees in offices throughout the United States and India. After selling the company to Ciber in 2002, Jack was determined to spend the rest of his life encouraging others through new business ventures, philanthropy and overcoming impossible odds, and that’s exactly what he’s done. His weekly show, Anything is Possible, has been a platform for telling many of those stories since 2005. His YouTube channel is entitled: AIP Speaker Series.

We are excited to introduce our second recipient for this years event, Dennis Panas!

Dennis Panas is a long-time member of the St. Clare parish. He and his wife, Mary, were married at St. Clare in 1985 and have 2 children, Jason and Tim, who were baptized at St. Clare and attended the school for a time.

Dennis has a long history of service. He was in the US Air Force for over 37 years as a mechanic, responsible for making sure the planes were ready to fly at a moment’s notice. He has also actively served for 25 years with the Knights of Columbus both on the council and as part of the assembly.

Unfortunately, shortly after retiring from the Air Force, Dennis contracted a very serious case of covid and was in the hospital for 3 months, including time on a ventilator. He has had a long recovery from this devastating disease and still suffers from the effects of long covid and is facing significant back surgery this summer.

In addition, for many years Dennis helped his wife face her own health issues. Mary had juvenile diabetes, which she struggled with throughout her life and ultimately needed a kidney and pancreatic transplant. She recently passed away in June 2025.

Please consider participating in this years event or donating to support this years recipients!

We are happy to introduce our first recipient for this years event, Jack Popek!

Jack Popek moved to the Grosse Pointe community with his wife, Brenda, in 2011, after he completed a 26 year career as an engineer with the Navy. Jack set his career aside to care for their two young children (both under the age of 9) and his ailing mother-in-law, when his wife Brenda unexpectedly passed away in 2017 from complications related to an aortic rupture. Shortly after Brenda died, her mother also passed away.
Unfortunately, this was just the beginning of a very difficult and challenging time. Over the last 8 years, his family has faced a series of illnesses, financial challenges and deaths that have left them on a roller coaster of grief, financial strain and recovery – with each challenge becoming more difficult for the family.

Throughout it all, Jack has shown incredible resilience and relied on his faith and the support of the St. Clare parish to help him endure these trying circumstances. Despite these setbacks, he has continued to give to the community. Currently, he serves as a Stephen Minister to help and pray for those in need. Jack is appreciative to be part of Project Hope this year and is grateful for the support of the St. Clare community. At the same time, he also hopes his trials can inspire others to continually persevere while experiencing similar hardships.

We are proud to announce that this year’s Project Hope (2024) recipient will be Brigid McNamara! Brigid has humbly agreed to be this year’s recipient. Let’s support, love and pray for the McNamara family!

The McNamara family has been part of and given much to the St. Clare community over many years. The family are long time parishioners and Brigid graduated from St Clare as did each of her 4 sons. Brigid is a dedicated Falcon and was very active in the school for many years. Her husband Steve has also been active with SCM and was head of the Ushers for a number of years.

The last year has been challenging for the family. Steve had a stroke in the fall of 2023 and Brigid was caring for Steve in his recovery when she was diagnosed with Breast cancer. She recently went through surgery and is currently undergoing treatment for her cancer. They are grateful to be part of Project Hope this year and appreciate the support and prayers of the Project Hope and St Clare communities.
