Preservation Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 1985.

We empower Texans to preserve their cultural heritage, and steward significant buildings, collections, and cultural landscapes to ensure their permanent protection.

Registration is open! Join Preservation Texas and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for a hands-on Historic Masonry Preservation Workshop at Hueco Tanks State Park in El Paso, November 11–14, 2026.

Participants will learn traditional stone masonry techniques, including dry-stack and earthen-mortar construction, while helping stabilize and rebuild stone walls at the historic Escontrias homestead. The workshop will also cover historic adobe assessment, including cracking patterns, moisture testing, and soil analysis.

Led by experts from Cornerstones Community Partnerships, the workshop is limited to 15 public participants, who will train alongside 15 TPWD staff members. First come, first served!

Preservation Texas is hosting an awesome event in Tehuacana on SATURDAY, October 10th (TOMORROW) and I got the chance to talk to Executive Director Evan Thompson about the plans for restoration at the historic site of Texas Hall and the first ever College Hill Festival.

RUMMAGE SALE this Saturday, October 10, in Tehuacana from 8:00am till noon! Come shop a huge selection of furniture, dishes, artwork, and other bargains at the old Westminster College gymnasium (110 Railroad Street, Tehuacana, TX 76686). Items are priced to sell and all sales are tax free!! Proceeds benefit Preservation Texas.

We welcome donations of new or gently used items for the College Hill Festival Rummage Sale, taking place on October 10!

Donations may be dropped off at the former Westminster Gym in Tehuacana (110 Railroad Street) on Saturday, September 26, and Saturday, October 3, from 9:00–11:00 a.m. The gym will be open and staffed during these times to receive donations. Please no clothing, shoes, or broken items!

Donors will be asked to complete a donation form at the time of drop-off. Any items that do not sell during the festival will be taken to a local thrift store.

All sales made at the festival will be tax free, with proceeds supporting the Preservation Texas Institute!

Preservation Texas welcomes nominations for our 2027 Honor Awards, which recognize outstanding individuals in the field of preservation, as well as recent historic preservation projects from across the state!

The awards are divided into two main categories: Individual Awards and Preservation Project Awards, each with several specialized subcategories. Detailed information about award categories and application instructions can be found at preservationtexas.org/honorawards

The 2027 Honor Awards will be presented in Austin on February 16.

On Saturday, October 10, Preservation Texas invites you to explore our historic College Hill campus in Tehuacana at the first annual College Hill Festival, a free event that is open to the public!

Originally established in 1869 as the home of Trinity University, College Hill is the future home of the Preservation Texas Institute, a one-of-a-kind center for preservation education, research, and hands-on training.

Join us on Saturday, September 12, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. for a guided walking tour of East Corsicana’s historic Black churches. Led by church leaders, local historians, and preservationists, this special tour will take participants to four different churches to learn about their history, architecture, and enduring significance.

The tour will begin at GW Jackson Legacy Park, where coffee and refreshments will be available. Stops on the tour include:

- 6th Avenue Baptist Church
- First Independent Baptist Church
- Wesley Chapel CME Church
- Bethel AME Church

This event is free and open to the public! The walking route covers approximately three-quarters of a mile.
