Grinnell School of Music is a vibrant community music school in Grinnell where children and adults access professional music instruction. With an emphasis on participatory, community music-making in addition to excellence in performance, the school provides music education and opportunities for recreational, competitive, and professional musicians alike, equipping students to become lifelong prac

‼️ DATE CHANGE ‼️

Rock Band Camp is coming to Grinnell School of Music on August 17-21! This is day camp for 5-8 year olds who are ready to make some music! Campers form bands, write original songs, build their musical fluencies, and develop their very own rockstar persona.

Camp will take place 9 AM-12 PM each day, with a final concert of entirely original music at 12 PM on Friday, August 21!

This amazing teacher, Farren Johnson (center) has been teaching drum students and our Mini Keys classes here for a couple of years, and we're absolutely delighted to announce that she is now joining us in a new, exciting role!

Farren is joining us as our Director of Youth and Outreach Programs, in a position shared with Grinnell Area Arts Council. In her new role, Farren will help enhance and expand collaborative youth arts programming for our community!

If you’ve been around the Grinnell School of Music for a while, you’ve likely seen this familiar face growing up right alongside us. Rory started his musical journey with us as an infant in our Music Together classes, where he first discovered the joy of rhythm and play.

Fast forward through five years of music-making, and Rory is now a proud 5-year-old in our Mini Keys program! 🎶🏃‍♂️

Watching our students evolve from tiny toddlers exploring shakers to young musicians sitting at the piano is exactly why we do what we do. Rory is a perfect example of how music becomes a lifelong language when you start early and keep playing.

We are so honored to have been a part of Rory’s story since day one. Here’s to many more years of finding your rhythm, Rory! 🌟

Registration is now open for ROCK BAND CAMP! 🤘🎸 Using music games, teamwork, and creativity, the rockstars in this program form bands and write original songs. At the end of the week, their bands make their debut in a concert for family and friends.

As the college semester winds down and the buzz of summer break begins, we want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to our incredible student staff and instructors.

You bring such a unique energy, brilliance and dedication to our halls. Balancing a rigorous academic schedule with your commitment to our young musicians isn’t easy, but you make it look effortless. Whether you were leading a lesson, helping a student find their first chord, or being a mentor and friend to the kids in our community—you have made a lasting impact here.

🎓 A special congratulations and thank you goes out to Ollie! Ollie has officially graduated and is finishing up their time with us at GSoM. We are so incredibly grateful for the dedication, talent, and care they brought to our students. You will be greatly missed, Ollie, and we can’t wait to see where your music and journey take you next!

To all of our instructors heading off on summer adventures or moving on to their next big chapters: thank you for being a part of our GSoM family. You’ve helped us build this community over the last five years, and we are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished both on campus and here at the school.

At the Grinnell School of Music, we believe you’re never too old to find your rhythm. Our private lessons aren't just for the kids—they are for anyone in Grinnell looking to add a little more harmony to their life.

Take it from Chris, one of our adult students who decided to trade "someday" for "today" and started ukulele lessons with Joshua:
