Connect with local resources, learn about prenatal and postnatal care, explore UnityPoint Health - Grinnell maternity services, and meet organizations that support growing families. Plus, enjoy plenty of free giveaways and raffle prizes, including the chance to win a Pack 'n Play!

September is here!

Check out everything happening at Poweshiek County Public Health this month! From immunizations and clinics to support groups and community events, we have a lot going on.

We will be CLOSED Monday, September 7th for Labor Day.

Bingocize Nutrition Workshop begins September 21st! Don't forget to register by September 17th. Give Poweshiek County Public Health a call to reserve your spot!

Community Baby Shower | Saturday, September 26th | 10 AM–12 PM at Hotel Grinnell

This FREE event is a great opportunity for expecting and new moms to connect, learn, and feel supported! We will have subject matter experts serving as keynote speakers, vendors with resources and education covering pregnancy and the postpartum period, and brunch!

Who is eligible to attend?
Pregnant moms
Moms who have had a baby within the last month

Registration is required, but the event is completely FREE!

The Village Closet is a community resource designed to provide support and essential items to expectant mothers, caregivers, grandparents and foster parents in need. Whether you're preparing for a new arrival or caring for a young child, we're here to help! Our closet offers a variety of free items to make your journey a little easier.

To receive free items from the Village Closet:
1. Schedule an appointment by calling (641) 236-2385 and select option 3 or email [email protected].
2. A Public Health nurse will return the phone call or email message within three to five business days.
3. Follow up questions will be asked to understand the caregiver’s specific needs and to set-up the appointment to get you items that can help you and your little one!

The UnityPoint Health – Grinnell Count the Kicks Community Baby Shower is coming up, and we’re asking our community to help us stock the Village Closet with essential items for families in need.

Shop our Amazon Wish List to donate items such as:
• Diapers and wipes
• Feeding supplies
• Safe sleep essentials
• Baby hygiene items
• Clothing and other baby necessities

All donated items will be provided at no cost to local mothers and families who need a little extra support. Every item—big or small—can make a meaningful difference for a family in our community.

Vehicle safety matters for children of all sizes. Ensure the proper use of child safety seats, making sure the car seat is appropriate for the child's age, weight and height according to the manufacturer's directions and properly installed. Public health has certified child passenger safety technicians who are available to help!

Parents, grandparents or others who transport children are encouraged to contact Public Health if they need assistance with car seat installation or want a technician to do a safety inspection. Call (641) 236-2385 to connect with a member of our team.
