🌟 Hope Alliance Spotlight: Austin 🌟

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize someone who has been part of Hope Alliance of NWI since the very beginning—Austin.

Austin has been a constant source of encouragement, positivity, and belief in our mission. His unwavering faith in Hope Alliance and our team has helped all of us believe in ourselves, even during the most challenging moments. Sometimes all it takes is one person who truly believes, and Austin has always been that person.

Whether it's volunteering his time, stepping up to help at events, or simply offering support when it's needed most, Austin is always willing to lend a hand. Even while balancing a full-time job, he continues to show up for Hope Alliance whenever he can.

Austin brings so much to our organization. He is kind, intelligent, funny, dependable, and a true friend to so many. His lived experience, passion for helping others, and commitment to making a difference are evident in everything he does.

We are incredibly grateful for the role Austin has played in helping Hope Alliance grow and for the impact he continues to make in our community. We wish we could have him around even more, but we're thankful for every moment, every event, and every life he helps touch through this work.

Today, we proudly put the spotlight on Austin and celebrate all that he brings to Hope Alliance of NWI.

Thank you, Austin. We appreciate you, we value you, and we are better because you're part of this team. 💜

💕 What a wonderful evening at Women’s Craft Night at the Portage Recovery Association (PRA)! 💕

Tonight was filled with laughter, connection, creativity, and fellowship. The ladies enjoyed painting flower pots, planting seeds, sharing stories, and simply spending time together. We were even treated to some delicious specialty drinks inside and a hot dog stand outside!

But tonight’s craft was about more than just painting a pot and planting seeds. 🌱

The seeds represented hope, growth, healing, and new beginnings. Just as a seed needs care, patience, and nurturing to grow, so do we. Recovery, healing, and personal growth happen one day at a time, and when we support one another, beautiful things can bloom.

Women need community. We need encouragement. We need safe spaces where we can laugh, create, and remind each other that we are not alone.

We’re excited to share that Hope Alliance of NWI will be hosting Women’s Craft Night again next month on the first Wednesday of the month! Mark your calendars and join us for another evening of fun, friendship, and meaningful connection.

💜 Ladies, come as you are.
💜 Bring a friend.
💜 Let’s continue growing together.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT-

I am extremely disappointed by my experience with the Baymont in Merrillville.

A family with three children was in crisis and needed temporary housing until the father received his paycheck on Friday. Through a donation from a generous woman living on a fixed income, Hope Alliance of NWI was able to secure a room through Priceline for approximately $230. The hotel was specifically chosen because it offered breakfast and a pool for the children.

About an hour after check-in, the front desk contacted the family and informed them they were being removed from the hotel due to a $100 deposit issue. When I received the call, I immediately turned around and drove back to the hotel at approximately 10:15 PM prepared to pay the deposit in full. Despite my efforts to resolve the situation and comply with the hotel's requirements, the front desk employee refused to allow the family to remain.

The most troubling part was being told that the hotel could refuse service and remove guests without providing a refund. As a result, a family of five, including three children, faced losing shelter late at night despite having a paid reservation.

Because it was nearly 11:00 PM and children were involved, I contacted the police hoping they could help mediate the situation. Officers responded and ultimately the family was removed from the property. Thankfully, two officers went above and beyond and worked to secure another hotel room for the family so they would not be left without shelter overnight.

While I am grateful for the compassion shown by those officers, I remain deeply concerned that a family with children was removed despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, including an offer to immediately pay the requested deposit.

The sign says they can refuse service at anytime - no reason or refund.

INSANE- this woman was horrible - I think as a community we should all make some calls. The police officer told me this happens all the time - they are called to the Baymont more than once a day for this situation and it’s not because they are black she does this to all races.

My emotions are high - Families facing hardship deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion.

The picture shows I booked for 2 adults & 3 kids. She says the kids were not included.

Dropped video in comments. Before video I tried to pay her and she would not take money. She said they had to go. She called the family screaming to pack and get out.

The month of May was an amazing month for Hope Alliance of NWI!

While we’re excited about the record-breaking numbers, the statistics only tell part of the story. What matters most are the people behind those numbers—the individuals, families, and community members we’ve had the privilege to meet, support, and walk alongside.

Every outreach encounter, every referral, every conversation, and every life touched represents someone who deserves hope, dignity, and access to resources.

We are incredibly grateful to our funders, partners, volunteers, and supporters who make this work possible. Your investment is helping us reach more people than ever before and create meaningful connections throughout Northwest Indiana.

May was a month of impact, growth, and opportunity.

June, we’re ready for you.

💜 Bring it, June! 💜
