🐾 BEFORE COLD WEATHER IS HERE! 🐾

As temperatures drop, the Humane Society of Spalding County wants to remind everyone how to keep our outdoor pets safe and warm. Knowing the difference between the right and wrong bedding can save a life this winter! ❄️❤️

🌾 STRAW IS A YES: Straw is the ultimate winter bedding. It doesn't absorb moisture and creates insulating air pockets that hold a pet's body heat.

❌ HAY IS A NO: Unlike straw, hay absorbs moisture quickly from the air and animal breath. It will freeze solid, creating a dangerously cold bed.

❌ BLANKETS ARE A NO: It sounds cozy, but blankets, towels, and rugs absorb dampness from the snow and air. They quickly become wet, freeze, and actually pull heat away from your pet.

🏡 Shelter Essentials:

Ensure your pet has a clean, dry, draft-free shelter.

A proper windbreak at the entrance is essential to keep freezing gusts out.

Change out straw regularly to ensure it stays clean and dry.
