The Griffin-Spalding Partners in Education (PIE) raised over $28,000 during its 20th annual golf tournament to benefit the teachers and students of the Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS). Twenty-three teams played in the tournament held at the City Park Golf Course on Friday, September 24.

Proceeds from the tournament are used to fund classroom grants, field trip grants and teacher tuition reimbursement scholarships.

This year’s first-place team was Twice the Ice (Sonny’s Ice); the second-place team was National Lock & Locker, and the third-place team was Medical Weight Loss.

GSCS Superintendent Keith L. Simmons said, “I was pleased with the turnout. I appreciate all of the work that went into planning this event from the staff and volunteers. I am thankful for the generosity of our sponsors and participants. This event is another demonstration of the community supporting our students, staff and school district and I am grateful.”

For the 20th year in a row, Manley, Spangler, Smith Architects was the Tournament Sponsor. Scoreboard Sponsors were Bicker’s Consulting Group, Brightmoor Hospice, Chick-Fil-A of Griffin and Medical Weight Loss. Hole-in-One Sponsors included Cronic Automotive Group (who provided a car that could be won by hitting a hole-in-one), MEJA Construction, Norcom Inc. and Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital. Andrew, Hammock & Powell Inc. was an Eagle sponsor.

Birdie Sponsors were: HE Hodge, Lighthouse Communications, Smith, Welch, Webb & White, LLC., Specialty Products Company, United Bank and Wal-Mart.
