Griffin Area Habitat is grateful to Georgia Power’s Metro South Region External Affairs Team for their help last week at our new build in East Griffin! The team worked hard completing part of our water control plan and it looks great! They each embodied community commitment and were truly “A Citizen Wherever We Serve.”

Six hardworking volunteers from the UGA Georgia Station here in Griffin worked with our regular volunteers today for a full day of ramp-building and painting at our new build in East Griffin. We have been blessed to have their help several times in past months. Griffin Habitat could not do what we need to do to support our community without folks like this donating their time and talents to our projects. It was truly a great day with UGA!!!!!! 🐶 🖤

Griffin Area Habitat for Humanity was saddened by the passing of long-time supporter, Dr. Tom Grayson, on February 5. Dr. Grayson, a former Board member, and his wife Helen were amazing supporters of Griffin Habitat for many years and helped us raise funds so we could continue to build life-changing homes in our community. Rest in peace Dr. Grayson and thank you.

Griffin Area Habitat for Humanity is so blessed by Central Georgia EMC grants through their Operation Round Up program. This grant will be used to make major repairs to the main bathroom of a family of six with four young children. This young family currently does not have a fully functioning bathroom and these funds will allow us to repair leaking plumbing and replace fixtures after we tackle damaged joists and flooring. Griffin Habitat is so appreciative for this support and it will make such a difference in the lives of this family. Thank you Central GA EMC!!!!!!!

Many thanks to Central GA EMC for their generous donation! With this, we were able to complete a ramp giving safe access to a pair of homeowners on Callie Road!

Griffin Area Habitat is saddened to hear of the passing of Jimmy Carter. In his 100 years, he did some amazing things and helped so many. For at least the last 4 decades, he and his dear wife Rosalynn were the face of Habitat for Humanity.

To celebrate President Jimmy Carter’s 100th Birthday, Griffin Area Habitat thinks it is also important to celebrate the service of our Construction Director, Mark Staples. Mark has worn many hats at Griffin Habitat and all have been as a volunteer - board member and chair, executive director, construction director ….you name it. How many affiliates have a licensed contractor who volunteers their time as a construction director? We would say not many.

Mark started with Habitat in 1986 when he was introduced to Jimmy Carter and Millard Fuller in 1986. He did projects in Americus and volunteered with Atlanta Habitat once a week from 1986-88. He started volunteering with Griffin Habitat in 1989 and has been the construction director from 1990 to present. In his spare time, he has worked with GA Southern Baptist World Changers in many different locations and projects all over the country. During Hurricane Katrina, Mark worked with GA Southern Baptist Disaster Relief in LA and MS.

While we celebrate the life and work of Jimmy Carter, we know his legacy lives on. It lives on in people like Mark Staples. Mark continues to carry the torch and keep Habitat alive in others. God bless you Jimmy Carter and God bless you Mark Staples.

We have made great progress on our new build in East Griffin since the foundation was completed just a couple of weeks ago!!!!! Thanks to our amazing volunteers, we even got one wall up!!!! This week we plan to have all the walls up and ready for rafters. We can always use more volunteers to help build - no tools or construction experience needed!!!! Call Lynn at (470) 357-5449 if you can help. We work mostly mornings and are usually done before noon to try and beat the heat!
