Today is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence! On this Fourth of July, as fireworks light the night sky and families gather in celebration, we are reminded that the story of our nation has always been a story of connection. From its founding 250 years ago, America’s journey has been shaped by people—by their hopes, their sacrifices, and their shared belief in a future built together.

That same spirit of connection lives within the Daughters of the American Revolution. While DAR is rooted in lineage and history, it is ultimately about community—a place where women are united by a shared appreciation for history, service, education, patriotism, and the preserving the enduring legacy of those who helped create our nation. On this once in a generation milestone moment, we also honor the friendships, fellowship, and meaningful experiences that make DAR membership so deeply personal.

Every DAR member brings her own story. What makes DAR special is that there is no single path to membership and no single way to be involved. Some arrive through years of genealogical discovery, others through friends, family, or a newfound interest in history and service. Members come from different backgrounds, generations, and walks of life, yet they are united by a common purpose: uncovering and preserving America’s origin story through sharing the individual stories of their Patriot ancestors.

On this Independence Day, we celebrate 250 years of the country we love so much, DAR members stand together as part of something larger than themselves—connected by history, strengthened by service, and united by purpose. As we look toward the next 250 years, we as Daughters of the American Revolution will honor the past, celebrate the present, and help write the next chapter of the American story together.

On July 4, 1776, delegates of the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, announcing the American colonies' decision to become a free and independent nation.

As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of this historic event, we honor the courage, debate, sacrifice, and aspirations that helped shape the United States. We also reflect on the ongoing work of preserving and sharing our nation's history for future generations.

As we unveil our newest exhibit, "Women of Valor: 250 Years of Women Serving Our Nation," we extend our deepest thanks to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their partnership and generous support in making this exhibit possible.

As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, this exhibit shines a light on the remarkable women whose service, sacrifice, leadership, and courage helped build, defend, and preserve our Nation across more than 250 years. Their stories remind us that women have been serving our country since before there was a United States and continue to serve with distinction today.

Through DAR’s commitment to preserving and sharing American history, thousands of visitors will have the opportunity to discover the inspiring stories of these women, learn from their experiences, and better understand the vital role they played in shaping our Nation.

We are honored to partner with an organization that shares our dedication to honoring those who came before us and ensuring their legacy endures for future generations.

On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved people in America learned they were free. Though the Civil War had ended months before, the news had not yet reached Galveston, Texas. That day, now commemorated as Juneteenth, became a significant date in American history.

The founding ideals of this nation, liberty, equality, and freedom for all, have always been a promise of progress. Juneteenth represents a turning point in America's journey to fulfill them, and a reminder that the work of each generation is to bring those ideals closer to reality.

DAR honors that history and the countless Americans whose courage and perseverance helped carry this nation toward a more perfect union.

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress made it official: thirteen stars and thirteen stripes would represent our new nation.

Nearly 250 years later, the Stars and Stripes still fly as one of the most recognized symbols of freedom in the world. For DAR, the flag is more than a symbol. It is a living connection to the patriots who fought for the ideals it represents and a reminder of the values we carry forward every day.

Through flag ceremonies, educational programs, and community events, DAR chapters nationwide work to ensure that the history and meaning behind our flag is never forgotten. On Flag Day and every day, we are proud to honor it.
