Hard as it is to believe the time to return to school is here. The changes Gregory has seen in their school system from the words of Inez Nollkamper ,coming to the new town of Gregory with her homesteader father Ben Lancaster, sitting on planks to learn to the modern school we have now with all the modern technology. So whether it is the “first day” of many first days of school ahead, or the “last” first day of school in the Gregory school system, we wish the students, the dedicated teachers, and the administration all the best for the 2026-27 school year.

“Well done my good and faithful servant..”
-Matthew 25:23
The above scripture has been used in many funeral services the IOOF Lodge has performed for their members since 1908. Today that one line applies to our Brother in the Lodge Elmer Karl. Returning to Gregory in 1956 to start his first appliance store on Main Street, Elmer and 14 other men joined Gregory Lodge #189. Elmer’s father Edward Karl had joined the Lodge in 1951 and his father-in-law Kenneth Snider in 1952. Remaining a member in good standing for 70 years, Elmer had received his 65 year pin several years ago. Elmer attended many IOOF functions and generously donated to many of our causes. Our sympathy to Karen and to Elmer’s family.

And just like that…. It’s over

What a 250th celebration of America it was. Now the people have gone home and the streets late at night are quiet and peaceful.
The IOOF Hamburger Stand had an amazing Fourth as well thanks to everyone that patronized the stand whether for a burger, a brat, or a bottle of water. We could not pull this off without you, as well as all the volunteers that fill in shifts or put up the stand along with our members.
Making this project easier we give thanks to John and Marla Meyers, Curt and Joyce Vakiner, Joe and Veronica Frasch, and last but certainly not least Cenex for everything they contribute. Each one of you make this project possible.
It didn’t take long in the planning to find out just how much Lisa Kerner had done behind the scenes for so many years. Lisa and Leon put in hours getting the stand ready and not only was it appreciated it didn’t go unnoticed.
The Hamburger Stand started in the early 1960’s (1963?) as a way to raise money to build the IOOF Lodge we use currently that was completed in 1967. The stand was erected in front of the Locker grocery store (now Dayspring’s Park). 60 plus years later the tradition continues…..
There’s no place like home…right here in Gregory!

The paper is incorrect. We did not open at 2 today- we will be going around 5/5:30. Our griller is to be here at 5. So if you are wanting burgers, come closer to 5:30. The flyers are correct. Thanks!!!

Has anyone seen a tool like this laying around? Our is a silver probe. What is it used for? When marking a grave for a burial, it is used to locate burials in vaults so loved ones close by aren’t disturbed when digging a new grave. The cost of a new one is over $50. The probe was noticed gone on Sunday night when on the way to mark for a funeral today. If you happen to see it just drop it off by the door of the IOOF lodge hall. Thank you for any help you can give us.

Congratulations to Mya Determan in receiving a $5000 National Oddfellow Scholarship. We in our local lodge are very proud of her. Mya’s grandmother, Joan Bloom , was so supportive of our projects, I wish she was here for this. You are so deserving of this.

Rikki,Dani, and Asia have been planning their next project with the Scholarship Meal. Mark your calendars!
