Congratulations to the Riverside High School speech and debate season for winning the 2026 National Speech and Debate Association District Qualifier Tournament for South Carolina. The International Extemporaneous Speaking qualifiers were held at J. L. Mann High School in Greenville, SC, on January 10th. The Congressional qualifiers were held on February 7th at Eastside High School in Taylors, SC. The Debate qualifiers were held online March 3rd-5th. The Speech and United States Extemporaneous Speaking qualifiers were held March 7th, at Greenville Technical Charter High School in Greenville, SC. The Warriors won the Overall Sweepstakes Award, Speech Championship, Debate Championship, and Congressional Debate Championship. Riverside event champions include: Juliana Lopez Africano in Dramatic Interpretation and Program Oral Interpretation, Enyo Toklo in Informative Speaking and Original Oratory, Fox Vickery in Humorous Interpretation, Tanvi Chelasani in United States Extemporaneous Speaking, Sash Sivaraman in International Extemporaneous Speaking, Shohom Saha in Senate Congressional Debate and he also won Best Presiding Officer. Isabella Batista won Best Presiding Officer in House Congressional Debate.

Sixteen students earned qualifying bids to represent South Carolina at the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) Tournament, held June 15th—20th in Richmond, VA. This tournament is the largest academic competition in the world. The qualifiers include: Shohom Saha in Senate Congressional Debate, Zachary Thies in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Artem Feno in House Congressional Debate, Sash Sivaraman and Isabella Murillo in International Extemporaneous Speaking, Tanvi Chelasani and Anamika Nair in United States Extemporaneous Speaking, Pranita Kata and Eli Golob in Original Oratory, Enyo Toklo and Aahanna Das in Informative Speaking, Fox Vickery and Mikel Eguiraun in Humorous Interpretation, Cata Jara and Benjamin Lin in Dramatic Interpretation, and Juliana Lopez Africano in Program Oral Interpretation.

Congratulations to the Riverside High School Speech and Debate Team for winning its 15th consecutive state title at the South Carolina Forensics Coaches’ Association Tournament, held February 21st at Newberry College in Newberry, SC. The Warriors took the AAAAA classification championship, won the overall sweepstakes contest, and earned the largest number of individual state championships. Individual champions include Mikel Eguiraun in Children’s Literature, Catalina Jara Parada in Dramatic Interpretation, Sash Sivaraman in Extemporaneous Speaking, Fox Vickery in Humorous Interpretation, Enyo Toklo in Informative Speaking, Sophia Sangronis in Novice Reading, Stephanie Duan in Original Oratory, Brooke Stuart in Poetry Interpretation, and Juliana Lopez Africano in Program Oral Interpretation. The team of Artem Feno and Sash Sivaraman were champions in Duo Interpretation. Representing Riverside Middle School, Silvia Lopez Africano was a champion in Middle School Declamation and Middle School Prose. Congratulations to Riverside High School for an outstanding performance at the 2026 Barkley Forum, a national circuit speech and debate tournament hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and held online on January 23rd through the 25th. Featuring some of the strongest competition from across the country including California, Minnesota, Texas, and Florida, the Barkley Forum is a three-day event with over 1700 participants. The tournament does not give an overall team award, but several Riverside students won individual honors.
Enyonam Toklo won 1st place in Informative Speaking. The team of Sash Sivaraman and Artem Feno finished 5th in Duo Interpretation. Juliana Lopez Africano finished 5th in Program Oral Interpretation.
