A Message from Chief Sluiter
Now that things have settled down after the busy Labor Day weekend, I want to pause, take a breath, and simply say thank you.
It has been one helluva summer. Starting with the “Greer Fire,” the outpouring of support we received was overwhelming. From home-cooked meals and baked goods that kept showing up at the station (and kept our gym busy) to the countless words of encouragement—our crews felt your support every step of the way.
A special thank you to the Greer Fire Auxiliary. This has been your most successful fundraising year ever, and it shows. From pancake breakfasts and raffle tickets to t-shirt sales and the kickoff of our capital campaign, your tireless efforts are making a real difference. You are helping fund scholarships for future EMS, fire, and nursing professionals, and providing resources we simply couldn’t budget for otherwise. We appreciate you more than we can ever say.
We also want to thank our community partners who stepped up big this year:
Lazy Trout Market (Joel, Ashley, and Tara) for sponsoring our 4th of July Pancake Breakfast.
Molly Butler Lodge (Irene, Sandy, and Heather) for covering our Labor Day breakfast.
Lost Resorts for hosting the unforgettable Boat Races and donating proceeds back to the Auxiliary.
Butterfly Lodge Museum for graciously providing the pavilion for our summer events.
Finally, thank you to our GFD crews—many of you gave up days off to flip pancakes, park cars, and help with events, all while continuing to provide top-shelf service to our residents, visitors, and neighbors everyday. You make GFD what it is today.
On behalf of the District, I appreciate you all more than I can put into words.
Stay safe, and have a great week.
Chief R. Sluiter
