Apparently recovery has a PR problem. 😂

Because yes, recovery is hard work. There are meetings, uncomfortable conversations, accountability, showing up when you don’t feel like it, and a whole lot of learning how to do life differently.

But there’s also a LOT of laughter.

Friendships. Adventures. Inside jokes. Celebrations. Ordinary Tuesdays that somehow become really good days. And plenty of things that definitely don’t make it onto the brochure. 😂

Sometimes the thing we’re resisting is the very thing asking us to grow.

The meeting we don’t want to attend.
The phone call we keep putting off.
The feeling we’d rather not feel.
The conversation we don’t want to have.
The truth we already know but aren’t quite ready to face.

Resistance is such an interesting part of recovery—and of being human.

Because not every 'I don’t want to' means I shouldn’t.

Sometimes resistance is fear.
Sometimes it’s discomfort.
Sometimes it’s an old way of protecting ourselves.
And sometimes it’s standing directly between us and the next version of our lives.

Tonight at Rooted Community Meeting, Brian and I are opening up a conversation about meeting our resistance in recovery—not judging it or fighting it, but getting curious about what’s underneath it.

Rosemary and her incredible team provide vital resources and hope to so many in our community and many of the men and women at Oaks have personally been blessed by their mission and care.

What a beautiful night celebrating an organization that gives so much to Greenwood. Grateful to stand beside them.

Every Friday night is a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do!

I want to thank every person from our community who has taken the time to walk through the doors of our campuses, meet our residents, talk with our team, and learn about what happens at Oaks every single day.

I understand that it’s easy to judge what we don’t understand. It’s easy to look at addiction and create a narrative that says, “Those drug addicts are the problem.”

But I’m asking you to look a little closer.

This collage represents men and women who have stood on our stage this year alone and celebrated one year, two years, three years, and up to 11 years of continuous sobriety. Behind every one of these faces is a story. A family getting their loved one back. A mother or father becoming present again. And a human being who refused to give up.

That is what is happening on our campuses.

Our community has one of the best recovery programs in the country right here in its backyard, and I could not be more proud of the men and women doing the work or the team that pours their hearts into making it possible.

So come see us and meet these men and women. Sit in one of our meetings. Come to a commencement. Get involved!

You may walk onto our campus seeing “drug addicts.”

I believe you’ll walk away seeing miracles.

Its happening here every day.

I’m grateful to this community for giving us a place to call home.

Recovery is possible! 🌳

What a night tonight! Please help us celebrate FIVE of our Alumni who picked up annual chips this evening! One of those being our very own Transportation Director, Jake F. on EIGHT YEARS SOBER!

Congratulations also to Tim H. on THREE YEARS SOBER, Tim C. on THREE YEARS SOBER, Joe D. on TWO YEARS SOBER, and Ryan H. on ONE YEAR SOBER!

Very special thank you to all of these men for continuing to be a part of our program, helping run workshops, and most importantly being awesome examples of what this program has to offer if you are willing to follow some simple directions.

And thank you to Jake F. for being such a valuable staff member at Oaks and running our transportation program these past several years.

Being a nationally recognized program, many of our residents travel from out of state to enter our program. Over the past 7 years, Jake has personally facilitated well over 500 airport/bus pick ups! He is the first person our residents meet when starting their journey at Oaks, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Tonight we had the honor of celebrating one of our most loved Alumni, Tim O. on SIX YEARS SOBER!

Every single year Tim travels all the way from Massachusetts, just to share this special evening with us. And anyone who knows Tim, also knows how big his heart is! We are so proud to call him one of our own!

Thank you Tim for not only showing up for our residents, but for also showing up day after day for your recovery community back home as well!

And very special thank you to Herren Project for giving Tim this opportunity 6 years ago, and providing him with a scholarship into our program. He is not only an Oaks success story, he is also a Herren Project success story! This is what it’s all about, and we are so grateful for our partnership!

Sometimes the best evidence we have for trusting God's timing is looking at where we've already been.

Think about the people who showed up at exactly the right time.

The doors that closed.

The plans that changed.

The things you desperately wanted that didn't happen.

The moments that made absolutely no sense while you were living them—but somehow became part of the path that brought you here.

You couldn't see it then. You can see it now.

Tonight at Rooted, we're talking about recognizing God's divine timing throughout our lives—and how remembering those moments can help us trust Him in the present.

Because maybe faith isn't knowing how this chapter ends.

Maybe it's being able to look back at the chapters you've already lived and say:

I didn't know the outcome then either. And somehow, I was still being led.
