You might just make it if you head out now. Old Washington Historic Park offers many informative classes.
What did people use to dye fabric before synthetic colors existed? The answer is more fascinating than you might think.
On Saturday, June 13 from 10am to 3pm, Historic Washington State Park is hosting Historic Dyeing 101: Cotton Edition, a beginner workshop walking you through authentic 19th century natural dyeing techniques for plant fibers.
You will learn the full process from mordants and fixatives all the way through to the dye bath, and you will leave with two mini-skeins of 100% cotton that you dyed yourself.
Class is capped at 6 people and costs $15 per person.
Aprons and gloves are provided, but wear something you can get a little colorful in. Call 870-983-2684 to register.
