Altrusa is a worldwide service association of business, executive, and professional women, united in personal dev

elopment and fellowship. The International organization has thousands of members, worldwide, and our club, Altrusa International, Inc. of Greenwood, MS, currently consists of twenty-eight wonderful women. The name “Altrusa” is composed of “altr” from the word: “altruism” which means unselfish concern for, or devotion to, the welfare of others; and “usa,” a reference to the United States of America and our pledge of loyalty and patriotism to this great country. Every Altrusan is person of ability, and a recognized leader in her own right. She gives of herself and her talents for the benefit of others in the true spirit of our organization. We believe if you become a member you will find opportunities to further develop your talents and personality through your contribution to Altrusa and through your contacts with fellow Altrusans and with those whom we aim to serve. The responsibilities of membership are many, but the rewards are great. We work hard but there is fun and fellowship, too! We meet twice a month, usually on the second and third Thursdays, at the Crystal Grill at noon. We have monthly dues (right now $34.00 per month) which pays for both lunches, and then toward both International and District Club fees. There are many opportunities for service as we have many committees from which to choose. If you are interest, please contact any of the officers listed below:

The Altrusa speaker for the January program meeting was Lisa Cookston, the executive director of the Mississippi Museum of the Delta. Mrs. Cookston gave a little history of the founding of the museum, told the club about the success of past exhibits, and announced events or exhibits that will be coming soon.

This past week, the Altrusa Club donated a collection of bottled water, beanie caps, socks, gloves, and various kinds of crackers and candy snacks to the Greenwood Cancer Center for the patients having chemotherapy to enjoy while receiving their treatments.
