When you give a dollar in charity, you have to raise that dollar again. However, when you lend a dollar, it can be used repeatedly. Loan clients pays back the money with interest, so that same dollar is stretched and can be lent again to more people.
This is just one reason why Microfinance is so powerful in developing countries. Investors provide capital that STAYS INSIDE the country and helps people learn how to build wealth, which is much different than receiving and spending money. People can be empowered and equipped to serve their own needs. This could look like digging their own wells, building their own businesses, and producing their own food rather than relying on scattered donations from outside their community.
Donations, charity, tithes, and offerings are all valuable--don't misread me here. However, there is ample room, need, and desire for Microfinance as well.
