🌟 Where are you from originally?
Philadelphia, PA

🌟 How long have you worked for Neighbor & what do you do?
I have worked for Neighbor for three years and three months. As the Executive Director, I collaborate with staff, our Board of Directors, community partners, and volunteers to advance our mission.

🌟 Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
Very early in my tenure, I greeted clients in a hallway. I overheard one of the individuals express to the other that “everyone here is so nice.” I immediately knew that I was in a good space and wanted to ensure it remained such.

🌟 What’s your favorite dish to cook? (Or favorite dish to eat?)
I am generally a pescatarian and like Mediterranean food and vegetarian dishes.

🌟 Do you have any pets, and if so, what are their names?
No, but I have a few plants that are more than 30 years old, which is older than our younger staff!

🌟 Where are you from originally?
New York City

🌟 How long have you worked for Neighbor & what do you do?
I have worked at Neighbor since February 2025. As Public Affairs Manager, I represent the organization in the broader community, building relationships with elected officials, government agencies, nonprofit partners, civic organizations, and other stakeholders to advance our mission and raise awareness of food insecurity.

🌟 Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
Launching Neighbor to Neighbor's inaugural summer internship program stands out as a highlight of my time here. Watching our students grow into confident, capable, and well-rounded young leaders -- through hands-on work and partner-led sessions on personal finance, health and nutrition, and networking -- has been incredibly rewarding.

🌟 What’s your favorite dish to cook? (Or favorite dish to eat?)
South Indian cuisine is my favorite to make and to eat. Dosa in particular is my favorite dish because of the perfect balance of crispy wrap with soft spiced potatoes, it's a fleeting combination of texture and comfort, best eaten right when it's made.

🌟Tell us about yourself. What do you do for fun?
I spend as much time as I can outside, walking, hiking, swimming, and biking with friends and family. I especially love the mountains and beaches. When not at Neighbor, I run an LLC which supports students through the college application process. I’m also learning to knit, which is fun and very frustrating at times, as there are a lot of failures that come with learning this craft!

🌟How long have you been volunteering, and why Neighbor?
I’ve been volunteering since 2020. I started with one of my sons when COVID broke out; hearing about all the issues many people were having with food accessibility pushed me to help out. We started at the Arch Street Teen Center, masked, shopping for clients, and helping load the trucks that went to the neighborhoods to deliver the food. I was so impressed with how Neighbor ran like a well-oiled machine and have been volunteering ever since.

🌟What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I love meeting and talking with the clients who come in to shop; we often discuss food and share recipe ideas, and many are so excited to talk about how they prep their food and what recipes they bring with them from their home countries. Most importantly, I have always been impressed with the way all clients are treated with dignity and care as they walk through the door.

🌟Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
I love Thanksgiving time at Neighbor. Clients are so excited to receive their turkey and all the fixings and so enjoy the American tradition. And the holiday always brings up conversations at the checkout about other countries’ traditions that people love to share.

Rising costs for food, gas, and everyday expenses, along with changes to eligibility for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), have led to a 14% increase in the number of families we serve this past year. For Feature Friday this week, we’re excited to profile our Operations Manager (and resident DJ!) Elvis Ruiz. Thanks for all you do for our clients, Elvis, and for always bringing the fun to the pantry!

🌟 Where are you from originally?
I am from amazing Flushing, Queens. Go Mets!

🌟 How long have you worked for Neighbor & what do you do?
I have been at Neighbor for 8 years. I’m the Operations Manager, so I handle the logistics of pickups and drop-offs and go on shopping runs to make sure we keep the pantry full. I also coordinate our adult volunteers and organize pack-a-thons and food drives.

🌟 Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
One of my favorite memories was my first backpack distribution: getting all the backpacks together, different groups assembling school supplies, and seeing how much time, teamwork, and effort went into filling each one. But nothing compared to the day the kids came with their parents to pick up their backpacks, with smiles on their faces as they walked away so excited to start a new school year. That experience made me feel so proud to work at Neighbor and reminded me that all the hard work we put in behind the scenes has a real impact on families and children in our community.

🌟 What’s your favorite dish to cook? (Or favorite dish to eat?)
I don’t think I have one favorite dish to cook. I love the challenge of trying new recipes and making different dishes. I’ll see something that looks interesting and think, “I want to try making that!” The good thing is, my wife cleans up after I make the mess! 😂

Inspired by Bourdain's bestselling memoir Kitchen Confidential, the film explores the experiences that launched his remarkable career and helped shape the candid, curious, boundary-pushing voice the world came to love.

👚👖👗Following the success of our children's clothing donation pilot last summer, we’re holding a limited-time fall clothing donation drive! From Wednesday, September 23 through Saturday, September 26, we'll be accepting new or gently used seasonal (fall/winter) clothing for adults and children during regular operating hours.

A few things to keep in mind: used items must be clean, washed, and free of rips or stains. We can't accept accessories (shoes, hats, bags, belts, etc.), household items, or local sports team shirts/jerseys. Donated undergarments must be new, unopened, or still tagged. Kids’ Halloween costumes welcome! 🎃

This summer, we watched eight local high schoolers grow from students into confident young leaders. 🌱

Our inaugural Summer Internship Program gave these young people two months of hands-on experience. They split their time between our pantry and community gardens and attended interactive workshops led by local leaders on topics ranging from health and nutrition to financial literacy.

They stocked shelves, packed grocery care packages, filled backpacks with school supplies, and learned how to plant, tend, and harvest vegetables. Along the way, they built real skills and a real understanding of food insecurity in their community.

We're proud of this first class of interns and excited to grow this program as a cornerstone of our work. 💚

🌟Tell us about yourself. What do you do for fun?
I was one year old when my family moved to Greenwich in 1959. I retired two years ago and continue to give back to the community by volunteering with Neighbor and working with Scouts BSA. The Scouts meet weekly, and once a month we go on a hike, campout, or do another event. My wife and I play pickleball and also enjoy going to some of the summer outdoor concerts, such as Backcountry Jazz and the Historical Society events.

🌟How long have you been volunteering, and why Neighbor?
I've been volunteering for about six years. I got to know people here through the annual Scout BSA food drive. You really see where your effort and money go, instead of just writing a check.

🌟What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
You see the direct benefit of your efforts. I like pointing out things like our fresh-from-the-garden display and encouraging people to take the local produce home. You get to know the clients; they get to know you. You really feel like you're making a difference.

🌟Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Neighbor?
There's a gentleman who's been with us a long time — his wife passed a while back, and he hadn't been to the new location yet. I walked him through how it all works, and every time he picked something out, he'd ask, 'Are you sure I can have that?' He left with two bags, still in disbelief. That really made Neighbor’s impact hit home for me.
