On September 23, 2025, at approximately 4:55 a.m., the Greenwich Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft on the west side of town.

During the incident, the victim interrupted the theft in progress and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses in the area reported hearing what they believed to be a gunshot. While the victim’s injuries are consistent with shrapnel from a discharged firearm, no direct gunshot wound was identified. The exact circumstances surrounding the reported noise and resulting injuries remain under active investigation.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Bridgeport by officers from the Bridgeport Police Department. A suspect connected to the incident has been located and is currently in Bridgeport Police custody. A bullet casing was discovered inside the recovered vehicle. Detectives from the Greenwich Police Department are currently on scene in Bridgeport as part of the ongoing investigation.

At this time, the incident appears to be an isolated case of vehicle theft. There is no indication of a broader threat to the community.

The Greenwich Police Department continues to strongly advise residents to remove keys and fobs from their vehicles, lock the car, and do not confront individuals suspected of committing a crime. If you observe suspicious activity or have concerns, call 911 immediately.

This is an ongoing, dynamic investigation, and the Greenwich Police Department will provide updates as they become available.
