What a productive Monday morning in Georgiana! 🌺🌿

Members of the Butler County Extension Master Gardener Association spent the day helping beautify downtown Georgiana in preparation for the 47th Annual Hank Williams Festival, coming up June 5-6.

This beloved festival brings visitors from across Alabama and beyond to celebrate the life and legacy of Hank Williams, and we're proud to help make the city look its best as guests arrive.

A special thank you to the City of Georgiana employees who worked alongside us and helped make the day a success. We also appreciate Mayor Nina Bonner and fellow Master Gardener and veteran, Mr. Jerry Feagin, for stopping by to visit, check on our progress, and show their support. We enjoyed the opportunity to spend a few minutes with them and capture a few photos together.

Projects like this are a wonderful reminder of what can be accomplished when a community works together. There are so many positive things happening in Georgiana, and we are grateful to be a small part of it.

Enjoy these photos from our workday, and if you're looking for a great way to spend part of your weekend, be sure to visit Georgiana and experience all the fun of the Hank Williams Festival!

🦋 What a wonderful Lunch & Learn! 🦋

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our May Lunch & Learn, Bodacious Butterfly Gardens. Master Gardeners Soyna Moore and Jackie Raines shared a wealth of information about creating beautiful, butterfly-friendly landscapes that support pollinators throughout their life cycles.

Participants learned about the importance of host and nectar plants, how to provide habitat for butterflies from caterpillar to adult, and simple ways to make any garden - large or small - more welcoming to these important pollinators.

The program was filled with practical gardening tips, beautiful examples, and plenty of inspiration for adding both color and biodiversity to our landscapes.

A special thank you to Soyna and Jackie for an excellent presentation and for sharing their knowledge and passion for butterflies and gardening. We appreciate everyone who attended and helped make this another successful Lunch & Learn program.

Enjoy a few photos from the day, and remember - if you plant it, they will come! 🦋🌸🌿

There’s just something about seeing a red poppy this time of year that makes you stop for a moment. 🇺🇸

For many of us, Memorial Day means family gatherings, flags waving on front porches, trips to the cemetery to place flowers, and remembering those who never made it home. We were raised to honor our veterans and to never forget the cost of the freedoms we enjoy every day.

The red poppy became a symbol of Memorial Day after World War I, when those flowers bloomed across the battlefields of Flanders Field in Europe. Out of places marked by sorrow and sacrifice came bright blooms of red, a reminder that even after loss, life continues on.

As Master Gardeners, that meaning speaks deeply to us. We know the comfort and peace that flowers and gardens can bring. We know how a simple bloom can hold memories of people we love. 💕Planting and tending a garden teaches patience, hope, and appreciation for the beauty God gives us, season after season.

This Memorial Day, may we all take time to remember the brave men and women who gave everything for our country. And may the red poppy remind us that their sacrifice should never be forgotten. 🇺🇸
