A great day at Petals From The Past in Jemison for the quarterly Master Gardener Advisory Council meeting! ๐ŸŒฟ

BTCEMGA President Linda Jarzyniecki, BTCEMGA Advisory Council member Martha Lampkin, and BTCEMGA Secretary Teresa Cassico enjoyed a day of learning, sharing ideas, and catching up with fellow Master Gardeners from across Alabama.

There were plenty of updates, even more questions (gardeners do love to ask questions! ๐Ÿ˜Š), and exciting news about the 2027 Alabama Master Gardener State Conference to be held in Homewood on April 7-9.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ‹ What a great July Lunch & Learn! Thank you to everyone who joined us this week for another Butler County Master Gardeners Association Lunch & Learn.

We were delighted to welcome Jack Rowe, Alabama Extension Agent and specialist in horticultural entomology and beekeeping, who gave a fascinating presentation on the important role pollinators play in our gardens and landscapes. From bees and butterflies to other beneficial insects, Jack explained how these amazing creatures support healthy plants, increase food production, and contribute to thriving ecosystems. He also shared practical ways each of us can create more pollinator-friendly gardens at home.

Congratulations to Barbara Gandy, winner of our door prizeโ€”a Hori Hori knife, a versatile Japanese gardening tool with a dual-edge stainless steel blade and inch markings that's perfect for digging, planting, weeding, and dividing plants.

A special thank you to Jack Rowe for an outstanding presentation and to everyone who came out to learn, ask questions, and enjoy another wonderful afternoon of gardening education. We look forward to seeing you at our next Lunch & Learn - August 25! ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

The Jail Garden isn't just about growing vegetables... it's blooming with color too! ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ

Our flower beds are putting on quite a show with bright zinnias, marigolds, sunflowers, cosmos, coneflowers, and Black-eyed Susans. These beautiful blooms provide an important food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators that help keep our gardens thriving.

We hope you'll enjoy these colorful snapshots from the garden and maybe find a little inspiration to add a few pollinator-friendly flowers to your own yard. Every bloom makes a difference! ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿฆ‹

๐Ÿ… Calling All Tomato Growers! ๐Ÿ…

Do you grow tomatoes in your garden or on your farm? We'd love your help!

Researchers are seeking input from tomato growers across the Southern Region to better understand the use of compost in tomato production. Your feedback will help Extension specialists develop future educational programs and outreach based on the interests and concerns of growers like you.

โœ… The survey takes just 5โ€“6 minutes
โœ… Fewer than 15 questions
โœ… Participation is completely voluntary

The project is led by Dr. Matt Bertucci at the University of Arkansas and is supported by the Southern Extension Risk Management Education Center (SRMEC). The goal is to better understand potential risks associated with compost use in tomato farms and gardens throughout the Southeast.

If you grow tomatoes, please consider taking a few minutes to participate and help shape future Extension resources.

๐Ÿ“‹ Take the survey here: https://forms.office.com/r/UBRK3ugxNt

Thank you for helping support research that benefits gardeners and growers across the South!
