Greenville International Folk Dancers The purpose of this page is to share information about GIFD, international folk dance instruction, and regional dance events.

Greenville International Folk Dancers is a recreational dance group affiliated with Greenville Parks and Recreation. The group meets weekly to learn and practice circle, couple and line dances from around the world. Please join us to enjoy the world’s favorite music and dances, mild exercise and a welcoming community. When: Monday nights from 7:00 - 9:00pm
The club does not meet when the building

is closed for government holidays and has occasional breaks during the year. Please call to confirm if you are not on the club e-mail list. Where: Sears Shelter, McPherson Park, 100 E. Park Ave., Greenville, SC 29607 (see map) *Park in the lot across the street and enter the front door. Who: Adults and children ages 12+. No partner or experience is needed. Cost: First visit is free!
$3 city residents and students/$4 for all others
OR 6 weeks for $15 paid in advance registration.

Summer break is over and it is time to gather and dance again. Greenville International Folk Dancers resumes Monday, Sept. 11 at the Greenville Ballet School from 6:45-8:15. Beginners are welcomed and no partner or prior experience is needed.

Love those intriguing and entrancing rhythms of our dances from the Balkans and Anatolia? Please join me for a course that I will be teaching this June at the Furman campus of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Here are the particulars:

Odd musical time signatures such as 5/4 and 7/8 can be challenging, intriguing, or just downright baffling. The goal of this class is to build familiarity and comfort with these rhythms using our eyes, ears, voice and movement. We will use popular tunes and simple walking dances from the Balkans and Turkey (where these uncommon rhythms are commonplace) as well as a few Western examples. No previous experience is required and no partner is required.
