Join us for an evening of powerful storytelling this Wednesday, April 15th.

"Vietnam Changed My Life," a documentary by Free Speech Films, is told almost entirely through the voices of veterans, including those who fought in major battles such as the Tet Offensive and Operation Dewey Canyon.

Through firsthand accounts, the film offers an intimate and unfiltered look at combat, sacrifice, and the lasting impact of service in Vietnam.

Join us at the Rupe (770 Pelham Rd, ) on Wednesday, April 15th, at 7:00 PM

This is an opportunity to listen, learn, and honor the voices of Vietnam veterans.

03/06/2026

Earlier this week at the Rupert Huse Veteran Center, partners from throughout the building gathered for a time of prayer and reflection as the conflict involving Iran continues to unfold.

Together, we held a moment of silence and spoke the names of the six service members assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command who were recently killed in Kuwait during an unmanned aerial attack:

Maj Jeffrey O’Brian
CWO3 Robert Marzan
Capt Cody A. Khork
Sgt 1st Class Nicole M. Amor
Sgt 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens
Sgt Declan J. Coady

Speaking their names aloud gave us a moment to pause, reflect, and honor the service and sacrifice of these men and women. We continue to hold their families, friends, and fellow service members in our thoughts and prayers.

This Black History Month, we honor James Roberts Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (SgtMaj Ret.), and Unit Commander of the Upstate Young Marines located at the Rupert Huse Veteran Center.

Since 2010, SgtMaj Roberts has led the Upstate Young Marines with strength, mentorship, and steady leadership. Under his guidance, the unit and one of its senior Young Marines have been selected as Division 2 Unit of the Year and Young Marine of the Year. They will travel to Virginia for the national selection process, where they are in the running for National Unit of the Year and National Young Marine of the Year.

After a distinguished 30-year Marine Corps career, SgtMaj Roberts retired with a legacy defined by hands-on leadership, compassion for his Marines, and a commitment to staying connected to those he served alongside. Known for walking the halls, checking in, and leading from the front, he modeled positivity, discipline, and teamwork throughout his career.

Today, he continues that legacy at The Rupe by mentoring young leaders and investing in the next generation.

We are honored to have the Young Marines call the Rupe home.

This Black History Month, we honor Glenis Redmond, a trailblazer, veteran, and powerful voice in South Carolina’s arts community.

Born in Sumter, South Carolina, Glenis became Greenville’s first Poet Laureate. She is a Cave Canem graduate and a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist. She received South Carolina’s highest arts honor, the Governor’s Award, and was inducted into the South Carolina Academy of Authors.

An Army Veteran Reservist who served in the Medical Services branch, Glenis continues to serve through her words as a cancer advocate and community leader.

At the opening of the Rupert Huse Veteran Center, Glenis shared her poem “At the Center,” helping mark the beginning of a space dedicated to connection, healing, and community. She is also featured in the Hall of Heroes at The Rupe.

We are proud to honor her legacy of service, artistry, and impact.

Today at the Rupe

Veterans and families gathered at the Rupert Huse Veteran Center today for Aging Well at Home: Guidance for Veterans and Families, an educational session presented by Always Best Care Senior Services of Greenville/Spartanburg

The session focused on helping veterans and their families better understand supportive home services, senior living options, and available resources that promote safety, independence, and quality of life at home.

We’re grateful to the Always Best Care team for sharing their expertise and for taking time to support our community through meaningful, practical education.

A second session will take place on February 18, continuing the conversation around payer sources and legal considerations.
