The Democratic Gubernatorial debate was hosted this evening by SC ETV News.
The Republican debate takes place June 9th.

All three democratic candidates were asked by the moderator, Gavin Jackson, if they would support or block legislation of “medical ma*****na” in the state and whether or not they would support or ban h**p derived thc drinks and gummies.

Jermaine Johnson For South Carolina appeared to be the only candidate on the stage prepared to answer the question claiming that he would support the legalization of medical cannabis and pardon all non-violent cannabis related offenses. (His campaign website also states that he would support full cannabis legislation.)

Both Webster and McLeod claimed it was an issue which they would need to learn more about or look into more before deciding. Both of them cited the need for better medical options for pain management.

You can see/hear their full answers below in the clip.

Cannabis Forward would like to commend Dr. Johnson for his use of the scientific term of cannabis. We are thrilled to see a candidate use the proper terminology! These things matter when educating about cannabis!

Here are some concerns I personally have with the rescheduling of medical cannabis:

First and foremost, cannabis should not be a scheduled “drug” at all.

This applies ONLY to states that have a medical cannabis law. It does not apply to states where cannabis is still illegal (excluding h**p that is legal under the H**p Farming act…for now.)

This will harm states that currently have a legal home-grow law. You will no longer be able to home-grow.

This will put cannabis in the hands of Big Pharma.

The DEA dispensary licensure fee of almost $800/year and is payable by PayPal….however PayPal does not permit payments that are associated with cannabis. What other government payments are paid by PayPal only???

Rescheduling does not wipe out prior convictions, and federal prosecutions for non-compliant cannabis businesses could continue.

Something I have been thinking a lot about:
Every cannabis-legal state has a different cannabis policy. Will this new rescheduling force states to adopt the same policy and what will that look like? How will it affect patients?

So, while movement forward can offer good benefits such as possible tax incentives, access to research, providing better cannabis for research, etc there are obviously some major concerns when it comes to the step “forward” the government is choosing to take.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this rescheduling below!

Hi, friends!
I have been out of the country, and a lot has happened while I was away.
I will make a post once I get caught up in everything (and have gotten caught up on laundry lol)

In the meantime, I would love for you to share your thoughts about medical cannabis rescheduling and SC h**p bans!

Stay safe!
Support each other!
And as always, cannabis forward.
