The Upstate Young Marines participated with the Elks Lodge and Vets Helping Vets Greenville in the annual Flag Day ceremony at the Elks Lodge. Sgt. Major Roberts and his Young Marines did a great job, as always.

We congratulate the Greenville Triumph and GE Vernova on the opening of the new soccer stadium at Bridgeway Station. We were honored that the NJROTC unit from Mauldin High School presented the Colors prior to the start of the match.

Today, Council President Tom Donaldson and his wife Debbie delivered a huge load of books that the Council had collected to the Merchant Marines Library. These will hopefully bring some pleasure and company while at sea for extended periods of time. Thanks to Tom and Debbie, and to all that contributed to this event.

Laurens High School NJROTC recently held its annual award ceremony. Council President, Rear Admiral Tom Donaldson, UNC(ret.) was on hand and presented NS1 Concepción Romero with the Prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Award. Commander Borden presented NS4 Max Martin with the top Senior Cadet award. Well done to all Laurens award recipients!

At the recent T.L. Hanna NJROTC Awards Ceremony, a Marine Corps Option, Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship was awarded to Cadet/ LCDR Amiyah Anders. This scholarship, worth $300,000 will provide full tuition, books, and a monthly stipend while Amiyah studies at the University of South Carolina starting in the Fall. Upon graduation in 2030 she will be commissioned as a 2nd LT in the Marine Corps.

The daughter of Jannett and Kelvin Anders, Amiyah had a great career at T.L. Hanna where she was the NJROTC Company Commander, the Drill Team Commander, a Leadership Academy graduate and Cadre, and received varsity letters in Track and Field all while maintaining a 4.671 GPA and ranked in the top 15% of her class.

Amiyah has fond memories of attending the Navy League Navy Birthday Ball along with several other T.L. Hanna NJROTC cadets last October thanks to the generosity of the Capital Corporation.

Recently TL Hanna celebrated their Annual Award Night. Council Vice President David Boone presented Jorge Ramos Rodriguez with the prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Award. Recipients of the top female and male cadet of the year awards went to Amiyah Anders and Dallas Carter. Congratulations to all of the TL Hanna NJROTC award winners!

Mauldin and TL Hanna High School NJROTC Drone Teams competed in the National Championship this past weekend at Georgia Tech. They represented their schools well, with Mauldin finishing 16th and TL Hanna finishing 17th out of the nation’s top 37 teams. The competition was fierce and some personal bests were achieved by the teams. Well done!

Noel Lyons Earns Marine Option ROTC Scholarship

Noel Lyons has been awarded the highly competitive Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Marine Option scholarship, recognizing his strong academic performance, leadership, and commitment to service.

He will attend the University of South Carolina this fall, where he will participate in NROTC training while pursuing his degree. The scholarship covers tuition and provides financial support as Lyons prepares for a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

This achievement highlights Lyons’ dedication and marks the beginning of his path toward becoming a Marine Corps officer.
