Thank you all for your participation and support of the 2025 Delaware Bird-A-Thon 🦅 However, DBAT isn’t over yet!

While the window for registering teams or counting birds has passed, it is NOT too late to contribute.

In fact, given the growing pressures on bird populations and increasing challenges to find funding for habitat conservation, our continued efforts are more important than ever.

Your generosity and that of your team members, family and friends will help keep Delaware the First State when it comes to birds and birding. Go to https://www.dosbirds.org/conservation/bird-a-thon/ and click on “Donate to Bird-A-Thon” to donate online. You can also make donations by check, made out to “Delaware Ornithological Society” and mailed to our address:

Happy DBAT week! One of our participants had this to say about their Big Day:

“This is my first real count on my own and it was so much fun! Bird habitat is forest edge, and meadow in front and behind our house with a lot of mature coniferous and deciduous trees in the viewing area. The variety of birds was astounding. Except for a few warblers, I had seen or heard every bird I counted at one point in the area. Several species that live nearby did not show up, but worse than that, I saw several species I could not confidently (or quickly) identify. I do not currently have feeders, and proudly counted 33 species. Best capture: the male and female orchard orioles scoping out a nesting spot and seeing her later with nesting material. So rewarding! Thanks for running this campaign.” - Wendy LaManna

Thanks Wendy for sharing your Big Day with us!

Delaware Bird-A-Thon: Highlighting 2021

Some of our Bird-A-Thon teams have been participating for many years, and one of these teams is the New Castle County Corvids.
In 2021, they chose to do their Big Day on almost entirely Delaware Wildlands properties in New Castle county.

Their efforts assisted in $44,000 being raised for a 347-acre property at Augustine Creek.
Members of the team are Sally O’Byrne, Curt Davis, Michael Smith, Alissa Kegelman, and Sheila Smith.

Thanks to Sally for the photos - we love to see our teams out and about on their Big Days!
