Muhlenberg County CERT MUHLENBERG COUNTY CERT Teams role in our community Time after time when disaster strikes it is the people in the community that are the First Responders.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT !members can assist others in their neighbor

hood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. When the System gets overwhelmed and the First Responders are spread too thin (Fire Dept. EMS, Rescue Squad and police) it has been the neighbors that come out to help in emergencies. CERT trains you in how to handle disaster situations and the people in your community. CERT Training teaches you after a disaster, put yourself and family first. Make sure your family is safe and secure before you deploy. After you are sure your family is safe you go to your teams rally or meeting place. Along the way you access the neighborhood and report it as you arrive. The Group leader will then determine immediate needs and deploy the teams to those areas to help the victims of the disaster. We have real threats of disaster here in the Muhlenberg County area. We could be affected by Tornadoes, ice storms, straight line winds, Fire's and earth quakes to name a few. The Muhlenberg County CERT Team is trained in how to handle and address these situations as they

TONIGHT (Wednesday Night): Severe thunderstorms will rapidly intensify over western Kentucky early this evening. Tornado development is likely, including the possibility of strong, long-path tornadoes. The most significant tornado threat is concentrated in the western half of the state. As the evening progresses, these storms are expected to organize into a more linear structure while moving towards Central Kentucky, transitioning the primary threat towards damaging straight-line winds. However, the tornado risk, while lower, persists. This line of storms, oriented southwest to northeast, may bypass southeastern Kentucky. Intense rainfall is probable, leading to localized flash flooding.

THURSDAY: Successive rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to track from southeast to northeast across Kentucky. The potential for damaging winds and a low-level tornado threat will continue. Torrential rainfall will also persist, increasing the danger of both flash flooding and more widespread river flooding. Rainfall accumulations could reach 2 to 5 inches in some locations. Southeastern Kentucky is again expected to see less storm activity.
