At the Foundation’s Board meeting this morning, several grants were approved including $200,000+ in program funding for the continuation of the SOAR early childhood education program in partnership with Muhlenberg County Public Schools! WAHOO!!! Happy 15th birthday, SOAR!

What a day! Today, our Board, Advisory Council, and staff gathered for the first day of our strategic planning retreat. We reviewed, digested, and discussed all feedback collected earlier this month from our interview, focus group, and community-wide survey on ways we can continue to support Muhlenberg County.

So many great ideas and suggestions; WE THANK YOU! 💡✨🙏🏽 Stay tuned for our report on the findings and plans for our future efforts to build on the county we love.

Love local! 🎨 We’re pleased to see local artist, Jacob Abbott’s work in Drakesboro. This piece has been in the works for months, under Ms. Debbie Gorham’s leadership at Hope 2 All. While she never got to see the piece to fruition, Jacob and Hope2All’s committed volunteers made sure to honor her legacy and love of people through the creation of this mural.

Fun fact, one of the last things Debbie ordered for the food pantry was 5,000 jars of peanut butter! … As such, notice the addition of a jar added to this mural. ❤️‍🩹🥜📦

Please help us in wishing a big CONGRATS to our very own, Alyssa Hoggatt Manning on her 14-year anniversary in the foundation arena! We thank her for her tireless dedication, love and care for her 'second home' - Muhlenberg County.

Anyone recognize these two? That’s our SOAR staff — Vicki Vincent-Yonts — and our Board member, Mike Schultz! We are so thankful for our staff who continually go above and beyond their traditional job duties by volunteering their time throughout the year with various endeavors, and our Board members that show up day in and day out in support of the county we love.

Come to visit the Muhlenberg County fair booth during the Kentucky State Fair this week! The collective Muhlenberg County tourism groups would love to see you. 🎡🎠🎟️

The Foundation was thrilled to be able to participate in yesterday's "The BERG Experience" through Muhlenberg County Public Schools. We had several staff members participate as presenters on the various programs we offer, leadership strategies, as well as grant opportunities. We talked about how to attain grants to keep from having to use what's earned on "pay day" for one's student classroom to ways to apply for "100 grand" to elevate classroom and school-wide experiences.

We thank those who chose to attend our sessions, and Muhlenberg County Schools for giving us the opportunity to share more about our efforts!

Yesterday, our President, Alyssa Hoggatt Manning, had the pleasure of serving along with other foundation leaders at the annual Nonprofit Roundtable Summit In Elizabethtown, KY on the topic “Beyond the Grant.” During the session, she was able to advise on tips for what makes a good grant application, as well as what happens after funds are awarded.

We’re thankful for opportunities to be able to share about all the good happening in Muhlenberg County through partnerships, grants, and other philanthropic endeavors happening right here at home. Thank you, Muhlenberg, for setting an example of what a loving, giving, philanthropic community can look like that others across the commonwealth can learn from! ♥️

The Felix Martin Foundation is a proud supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Louisville (CFL). We were thrilled to be able to meet CFL's new President & CEO, Tawanda Owsley, during yesterday's press conference in Louisville.

According to CFL's press release, Tawanda joins CFL from "Hosparus Health and has led multidisciplinary teams, strengthened brand strategy and strategic messaging, advanced fundraising initiatives, and built meaningful relationships with donors, board members, community leaders, and other key stakeholders. Her nearly 25 years of leadership as a nonprofit executive span a background of philanthropy, marketing, communications, community engagement, and organizational growth."

Not unlike others we converse with from across the region - when we mentioned Muhlenberg County - Tawanda was already familiar and noted a few folks she had worked with in the county in years past. We look forward to working with and learning from Tawanda, and having her visit Muhlenberg again, soon!
