Over 150 years old and still stunning! On display at the Sigal Music Museum is this extraordinary guitar crafted by Christian Friedrich Martin in Nazareth, PA, around 1870. Born in Markneukirchen, Germany in 1796, C.F. Martin came from a long line of woodworkers and cabinet makers, apprenticed under master guitar maker Johann Georg Stauffer in Vienna, and eventually made his way to America. He settled his company in Nazareth, PA in 1838, where Martin guitars are still made to this day.

This instrument is a testament to the artistry of 19th-century lutherie: spruce top, rosewood back and sides, ivory binding, ebony fingerboard, and four rosewood sound hole rings with a delicate green and white rope pattern puffling. Even the tuners are ivory. Stamped inside: "C.F. Martin / Nazareth, PA"... a name that would become synonymous with the American guitar.

Currently on display, this piece is one of countless treasures waiting for you at Greenville's own world-class instrument museum.

Thank you, Fox Carolina News, for shining a light on one of Greenville's greatest sons, Peabo Bryson. The world lost a giant. But here in Greenville, we lost something even more personal... a neighbor, a product of our community, a reminder of what this city is capable of producing.

Born in Greenville, South Carolina, on April 13, 1951, he built a career as one of R&B's premier balladeers, recording hits including "Feel the Fire," "I'm So Into You," and "Can You Stop the Rain." He went on to become the legendary voice behind Oscar-winning Disney classics "Beauty and the Beast" and "A Whole New World" — and both of those theme songs earned him Grammy Awards. Over five decades,

At Sigal Music Museum, we believe that music tells the story of a place and its people. Peabo Bryson is part of Greenville's story and we are committed to making sure future generations know it.

Peabo Bryson, the two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, died at the age of 75. His family said Bryson dies Tuesday, days after having a stroke.

Sigal Music Museum would like to acknowledge the phenomenal talent that was Peabo Bryson, a Greenville native who entertained the world for over 50 years. We had the pleasure of interviewing Peabo while he was in town to perform at the Peace Center, and again when his mural was unveiled at the Commons. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
