Update: Grey’s Road to Recovery!

We have some wonderful news to share: it’s been a week since Grey’s surgery, and he has made a 100% recovery!

While he only has three teeth left, the surgery provided instant relief from the chronic pain he was enduring. The change was almost immediate—he started eating right away and is finally acting like his old self again.

The best part? Grey has found his voice! His mom shared that he’s started meowing again, something he hadn’t been able to do for months. Now that his mouth is healthy, he can finally groom himself comfortably, and his risk for future respiratory infections has been greatly reduced.

We're so grateful to the team at Stone Ave Vet for offering to take on Grey’s case and giving him such gentle and comprehensive care. You really went above and beyond!

Also, a HUGE thank you to everyone who stepped up to help! In the face of a heartbreaking situation, your generosity didn't just pay for a surgery; it restored our faith in human goodness and gave Grey a second chance at a happy, vocal, and pain-free life.

We couldn’t have done this without you.💙

How do you know when mass trapping is the way to go? Here are some of the benefits of trapping the whole colony at once:

✔️ It can quickly resolve a problem situation. When you alter all the colony cats at the same time, it can almost immediately eliminate nuisance behaviors such as yowling, fighting, and foul odors.

✔️ It requires less time and effort. While it may feel like a lot of work, in the end mass trapping is less work than trapping just a few at a time. That’s because you’re only performing all the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) steps once, instead of repeating them over a period of weeks or months.

✔️ It makes it easier to catch those last cats. Once you’ve trapped the majority of cats, you can easily identify the holdouts and withhold food, set out extra traps, or try a trapping trick or two. This way, you’re more likely to achieve 100% sterilization.

🐾 Let’s do something fun for a good cause!

I’m Zach, Treasurer of The Mickey and Mouse Project, and I’m running a fundraiser to support feral cats in our community.

We’re doing a simple “Pick a Day” challenge for May:

Pick any day (1–31) and donate that amount.
➡️ May 5 = $5
➡️ May 20 = $20
➡️ May 31 = $31

That’s it. Easy.

Once you send your donation, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $25 Chewy gift card 🎉

There’s a QR code on the calendar that takes you straight to our website to donate. If that doesn’t work for you, just message me and we’ll figure out another option.

Our goal is to sell all 31 days and make a real impact for these cats. Every dollar goes toward food, care, and support.

Comment or message me to claim your day!

Let’s see if we can fill the whole month

Please click the link to donate or scan the QR code on the calendar.

😸💞A most *wonderful* thing happened yesterday:

Everyday, we get desperate calls from people finding newborn kittens. It seems like we also constantly see them posted on social media. 😫

No matter how many posts we, and other rescues, share steps to take, many are *still* compulsively scooping up these kittens, thinking the mothers have abandoned them.

One such call came in at around 3 PM.

The young man had picked up a lone newborn kitten they saw wiggling around out in their lawn.

They said they were watching, and the mother had not come back for 3 hours so they wanted to "save" it.
But situations like this are common.

Why?

When mothers have their babies, after the birth is finished, they often quickly transport them to a place they feel more comfortable.
Maybe they are associate the birthing place with the traumatic event ( giving birth isn't easy). Maybe it's just wet and they want something dry and cozy. At any rate, these transfers are common.

They can only move one at a time. Sometimes they drop one mid trip, and come back to finish the job later. Transfers typically occur in the early morning and late evening.

In this case, since there was only one kitten, this was the likely scenario and the mother would probably return at dusk to pick up the last kitten.

I explained that the best chance of survival kittens have is with the mother, but unfortunately, now that the kitten was touched, she may not accept the kitten back.

He had two choices:

1. Put the kitten back in the exact place he found it.
Pour a ring of baking flour around the kitten to monitor if the mother was coming back to check on it. If she is, he would be able to see paw prints in the flour. With any luck, she'd just take her baby.

2. Assume care of the kitten and plan on feeding it every two hours, caring for it as a mother would, keeping it warm, and preparing for emergency medical intervention should failing kitten syndrome occur.

He said there was no way he could do option 2. But unfortunately, most bottle feeders and shelters are completely full right now.

He chose option 1.

At 7 PM, I received an exciting text, that yes indeed, the mother returned and got her last kitten! Surprise, surprise. 😸👏🏽

Now, this young man is going to reach out for help to fix all of them, including the mother! No more lawn kittens for him!

This is all to say 2 things:

PLEASE stop stealing kittens!
At best, being away from mother drastically reduces their life expectancy.
Worst, there is no place for them to go.

If you have/see an outside cat, PLEASE fix it. 🙏🏼

All over rescues are saying that this kitten season is the worst they've ever seen.
We NEED your help to stop overpopulation and stop the suffering that comes as a result.

These animals depend on us to care for them.
They depend on all of us.

🐾 DON’T BE A "KITTEN-NAPPER"! 🐾

It’s happening... again.
High emotions and good intentions are leading to some very sad outcomes. We’re seeing a surge of well-meaning people "rescuing" kittens because Mom wasn't in sight, only to realize they can't care for them.

"I have dogs."

"I can't afford them."

"My landlord says no."

Full stop. 🛑

Removing nursing kittens from their mother is often a death sentence. Even the best formula can’t replace a mother’s milk and the antibodies it provides.

Rescues are struggling because they are all full. Trying to get rid of kittens on social media is dangerous

🚨 PLEASE SHARE TO SAVE LIVES!

If you find a litter of tiny, nursing kittens: DO NOT take them inside.

Why is Mom gone? She isn't abandoning them! She’s likely:

Hunting for her own survival.

In the process of moving the litter to a safer spot.

Taking a much-needed break from the "nursery."

💡 What YOU should do instead:

Keep Your Distance: Watch from afar for 4–6 hours. If you’re too close, she won't come back.

The Flour Trick: Sprinkle a light circle of flour around the kittens. If you see paw prints later, Mom has checked in!

Support the Chef: Leave food and water nearby so Mom doesn't have to travel far to eat.

⏳ When to intervene?

Wait until the kittens are 5–6 weeks old (eating solid food and playful). That is the magic window to rescue the babies and get Mom trapped and spayed!

The Mickey and Mouse Project Philosophy: A community cat mom doesn’t need us to take her babies—she needs us to support her while she raises them.

🐾 Happy National Pet Parents Day! 🐾

Yesterday, we celebrated the heroes who open their hearts and homes to the most innocent and vulnerable among us. Being a pet parent is about more than just "owning" an animal—it’s about stepping up as true Custodians of the Planet.

Why It Matters

Caring for a pet isn’t just about food and shelter; it’s about nurturing their physical, psychological, and emotional welfare.

Compassion in Action: Compassion is empathy at work.

Building the Future: Some countries now use "Compassion Education" to teach children Emotional Intelligence (EQ), a proven foundation for raising healthy, well-adjusted adults.

A Call for Change: As recent local news in SC has shown, this type of education is more vital now than ever.

"Caring for animals is the foundation of a moral, ethical, and healthy society!"

We look forward to diving deeper into the importance of compassion education soon. But for today, we simply want to celebrate YOU and the beloved species you share your life with.

Cheers to the protectors, the providers, and the best friends! 🐶🐱🐰🦜

🐾 Behind the Scenes: The Clean-Up Crew! 🐾

Trap cleaning and prep day wouldn't be complete without my little helpers! 🐈✨

When the TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) work is done, the real behind-the-scenes hustle begins. Every trap must be:

🧼 Deep cleaned

🦠 Disinfected

🛠️ Inspected & Repaired

We have to ensure everything is in perfect working order for the next kitty in need. And honestly, what better way to test the "final product" than hiring some local cat consultants to give their seal of approval? 🐾✅

Huge thanks to the "testers" for making sure these traps are cozy and safe!

Heartbreak and hope collided today. 🐾

It’s been a heavy, emotional day here. Meet Lucky, a 15-year-old soul who found himself at the shelter after his mom was moved into a nursing home. Because of her Alzheimer’s, Lucky’s own health took a back seat—his hyperthyroidism and other medical conditions went untreated for far too long.

At just 8 lbs, he is skin and bones. But while his past was filled with confusion, his future is finally looking bright.

🏠 A New Chapter Begins

Despite everything he’s been through, Lucky’s spirit is unshakable. He is officially out of the shelter and settling into his very own room!

The Royal Treatment: Soon, he’ll be exploring a private catio all to himself.

New Neighbors: Since his new home is technically a dog rescue, he’s learning to live with some wagging tails passing by his door. So far? He’s a total pro.

The Goal: With proper care, medication, and a lot of treats, we’re determined to get him back to a healthy weight.

❤️ A Village of Support

We couldn't do this alone. A massive, heartfelt thank you to Shannon from Stone Soup Animal Rescuefor stepping up to foster this special-needs senior. It takes a literal village to save a life like Lucky's.

"They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but this old cat is teaching us everything about resilience."

Today was truly his Lucky day (pun absolutely intended). Welcome home, sweet boy. 🐱✨

🐾 SURPRISE: It’s a Party of Four!🐾
Remember that update we promised on the "baby"? Well, plot twist... make that babies!

After a whirlwind of coordination and some seriously short nights, we are beyond thrilled to announce that we successfully secured not just one "little sick kitten," but four tiny survivors! 🐱🐱🐱🐱

It Takes a Village 💙

This rescue wouldn't have been possible without an incredible team of heroes:

Madi Paris, who found them and made that life-saving call late Sunday night.

Esther Neonatal Kitten Alliance, for opening your doors and hearts to these little ones.

Debbie & Allen, the boots-on-the-ground crew who made the rescue a total success.

Joan, our "connector" who put all the pieces together.

Why We Do It

Kitten season has been absolutely relentless this year, but moments like this—seeing these sweet faces safe and sound—are exactly why we do what we do.

Our motto isn't just a phrase; it’s a promise:

"Paws Unite For A Cause"

Thank you to everyone involved for breathing life into those words today and every day.

We couldn't do it without this community!
