UPDATED ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 22 AT 8:54 p.m.:
Due to the impending winter storm, Furman University will be closed from Saturday, Jan. 24, through Monday, Jan. 26. All classes and on-campus events are cancelled during this time.
According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, 0.5-0.75 inches of ice accumulation is expected, along with a wintry mix of rain, snow, and sleet. These conditions are likely to cause treacherous travel and widespread power outages across the Upstate.
We are announcing this closure now so that students and families have time to make plans ahead of the storm.
The Dining Hall will remain open for students only with limited hours. Any adjustments to the hours of operations will be communicated directly to students each day.
Saferide will not be operating on Saturday or Sunday night. Please call Furman Police if you need an on-campus es**rt.
Student Life will send additional details regarding campus services and resources for students.
The Emergency Response Team will continue to monitor the weather in consultation with the National Weather Service and public safety officials. We will provide urgent updates as necessary and will send another update regarding plans for next Tuesday no later than Sunday at 4 p.m.
For updates, visit our news page and follow on Furman’s social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and X. Students, faculty and staff will receive text and email alerts in emergency situations.
Decisions about the University’s operations in the face of weather are made after careful deliberation. The Emergency Response Team relies on information from several sources and considers many perspectives. The safety and well-being of students and employees always comes first.
