From hiking trails to wish journeys, Denise leads with heart. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฅพ

She first joined Make-A-Wish South Carolina through the Trailblaze Challenge to honor her late husband, John, and their love of hiking. What began as a meaningful tribute became a passion for serving wish families and a community that changed her life, too.

Today, Denise is a wish granter who listens, celebrates and helps families remember they are never alone. And when she isnโ€™t supporting wishes, you might find this world traveler planning her next adventure! ๐ŸŒŽ

Denise first joined Make-A-Wish South Carolina through the Trailblaze Challenge as a way to honor her late husband, John, and their shared love of hiking. Along the trail, she found something unexpected: a caring community and a passion for helping wish families.

Today, Denise serves as a wish granter in the Myrtle Beach region, listening to families, celebrating wish kids and giving them something joyful to look forward to.

As Denise says, โ€œAs a volunteer, you end up receiving just as much as you give.โ€

August brought Summer of Wishes to a close and capped off an incredible year of life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Four-year-old Ford spent his wish at Monster Jam meeting his favorite driver. After countless hospital visits, his family got to see him light up doing something he loves.

Seventeen-year-old Antonio traveled to Walt Disney Worldยฎ. His mom shared that the trip gave him a chance to enjoy life and reminded him that his medical challenges don't define what he can experience.

And for Logan, a wish to visit New York City became something her entire family needed. After years of missed vacations and family activities because of her health, the trip felt like a celebration of everything they had overcome together.

From Disney cruises to shopping sprees, backyard escapes to unforgettable adventures, August wishes helped children with critical illnesses focus on being kids, making memories and looking ahead with hope.

Every wish tells a different story. Together, they remind us why wishes matter.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kelly Willenberg to the Make-A-Wish South Carolina Board of Directors!

Dr. Willenberg is a nationally recognized healthcare compliance executive, oncology nurse, author, and advocate who has dedicated her career to supporting patients and families through some of life's most challenging moments.

Her connection to our mission is deeply personal. As the grandmother of wish alum Adaleigh, she has witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact a wish can have on a child and family.

Dr. Willenberg believes in giving back, lifting others up, and helping families find hope and resilience. We are honored to welcome her expertise, compassion, and commitment to serving children with critical illnesses.

When she's not working, she enjoys traveling, reading, spending time with her grandchildren, playing pickleball and mahjong, and golfing.

We're excited to welcome Judon Stevens to the Make-A-Wish South Carolina Board of Directors!

A wish can leave a lasting impact on an entire family. That's what inspired Judon to become more involved with Make-A-Wish South Carolina. After witnessing the difference a wish made for the child of a close family friend, Judon developed an even deeper appreciation for the hope, joy, and strength a wish can provide during difficult circumstances.

As President and CEO of Shakespeare Company, LLC, Judon brings decades of leadership experience, a commitment to community engagement, and a passion for helping more children and families experience the power of a wish.

Outside of work, Judon enjoys traveling, boating, fishing, and building small projects.

Please join us in welcoming Angela Phillips to the Make-A-Wish South Carolina Board of Directors!

As a dedicated community volunteer, donor, and member of our inaugural Wish Night Leadership Committee, Angela has helped introduce new supporters, volunteers, and partners to the Make-A-Wish mission.

Angela loves connecting people, building relationships, and bringing ideas to life. She believes that even during the hardest times, a wish gives children and families something to look forward to and creates memories they'll carry forever.

Angela is passionate about growing community awareness, strengthening partnerships, and helping more children experience the hope, strength, and joy a wish can provide.

Outside of her community involvement, Angela enjoys cooking, reading, needlepointing, and spending time with her family.

We're grateful for Angela's continued commitment to Make-A-Wish South Carolina and look forward to the impact she'll make as a member of our Board of Directors.

After retiring and becoming a grandparent, Vickie found herself asking, "Now what?"

She discovered the answer through Make-A-Wishยฎ.

As a WishMakerยฎ and volunteer for nearly 15 years, Vickie helps create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Along the way, she's found friendship, purpose and a way to share the values that matter most with her grandchildren.

Every year, Vickie and her grandkids host a lemonade stand to raise funds for wish kids, teaching them the importance of giving back and helping others.

"Helping Make-A-Wish teaches them to do for others without expecting anything in return," Vickie said.

๐Ÿ’™ This Grandparents Day, we're celebrating grandparents like Vickie who are creating a legacy of hope, compassion and community for future generations.
