Hunters Sharing the Harvest was honored to once again be the beneficiary of the annual Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus reception Tuesday evening at the Hilton Harrisburg. More than 120 attendees joined us, including state legislators, representatives from state agency partners, corporate supporters, conservation organizations, HSH board members and supporters from across Pennsylvania.

We’re especially grateful to the 26 businesses and organizations whose sponsorship and participation helped make the event a tremendous success in support of Pennsylvania’s venison donation program.

During the reception, HSH Executive Director Randy Ferguson shared preliminary 2025-26 hunting season results showing approximately 293,000 pounds of donated venison — which will be another new record and will once again maintain Pennsylvania’s position as the nation’s leader in hunter-donated venison.

The evening also recognized Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski for his longstanding support of HSH and for his many years of helping organize and MC this outstanding annual event that continues to bring together leaders from the conservation, hunting and charitable food network. Randy presented Rep. Pashinski with a framed largemouth bass print donated by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, recognizing his lifelong love for bass fishing.

Together, we continue proving that hunting is conservation, community and compassion in action.

📸Thanks to Monica Ferguson for documenting the evening in images and video!

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in defense of the United States.

Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we cherish and the outdoor traditions we hold dear.

From all of us at Hunters Sharing the Harvest, thank you to our fallen heroes and to the families who carry their legacy forward.

Great things are happening in Jefferson County!

Yesterday, HSH Executive Director Randy Ferguson visited the new Farm to Refrigerator Training Facility at Jefferson County-Dubois Area Vocational-Technical School (Jeff Tech), where he met with program instructor Philip Wallace to learn more about this impressive, state-of-the-art program.

Designed to equip both high school students and adult learners with valuable meat processing skills, this innovative facility is creating real workforce opportunities while strengthening local food systems.

HSH is excited to be exploring the potential for Jeff Tech to serve as a participating processor for donated deer in the region—helping turn hunter-harvested venison into nutritious meals for neighbors facing food insecurity.

Projects and partnerships like this represent the intersection of conservation, education, workforce development and hunger relief.

With the recent addition of new volunteer coordinator Jennie Pearce, we're excited about the future of HSH in Jefferson County!

Welcome to the HSH team, Davey!

HSH executive director Randy Ferguson and his wife Monica joined our friends from Mercer County Food Bank last night for their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser - drawing attention to food insecurity in Mercer County. Guests were able to enjoy a single bowl of soup and crackers to represent the sparse meals that the food insecure experience on a regular basis. The bowls, which guests got to take home, were turned by volunteers at Hope Center for Arts and Technology, Inc. While venison wasn't on the menu, Randy and Monica were happy to deliver leftovers to the Greenville Community Senior Center at the end of the night.

This Volunteer Week, we’re proud to recognize our volunteer county coordinators.

Across Pennsylvania, these dedicated individuals connect hunters, processors and local hunger relief organizations to ensure donated venison reaches neighbors in need. Their grassroots leadership is what makes “Hunting as Social Service” possible in communities across the Commonwealth.

We are deeply grateful for the time, energy and passion our coordinators bring to this mission.

Want to make a difference in your community?
We’re actively seeking volunteer coordinators in counties where we don’t yet have coverage. If you’re passionate about hunting, conservation and helping feed those in need, we’d love to hear from you.

Thanks to our friends Greg Traynor and Mike Hudson from Accessible Hunter and the Accessible Hunter Podcast for speaking with Dan Sneath from Hunter Nation Pennsylvania about Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski's recently introduced bill, HB-2193 - Deer Processor Tax Credit. The bill, currently under review in the House Finance Committee, would offer a $100/deer tax credit in lieu of payment for processors who process a hunter's donated deer for distribution to a hunger relief organization. A processor could apply for the tax credit claiming up to 50 deer for a total of $5,000. Statewide, the tax credit would be capped at $200,000. More info in the comments 👇.
