One of the things I love about what we do at Care4oneAnother, is meeting and working alongside exceptional people. After a natural disaster, like the most recent flooding in Kerrville Texas, the best way to locate people most affected is to talk to local residents. This approach took me on a circuitous route through Kerrville that eventually led me to Dondi Persyn. Dondi organized a pop up Community Distribution Center in an abandoned parking lot in one of the hardest hit communities along Town Creek, to distribute necessary supplies to people restoring their homes from the water damage. She embraced the idea of Care4oneAnother setting up water filter distribution and training along side. Everyday while I was there, she was out finding donors and the next day another delivery of much needed supplies were on site. By the end of the day all supplies were picked up and the whole cycle repeated again the next day.
In the end, 78 families in the area of Town Creek now have a means of clean drinking water while working to rebuild what they lost in the flooding.
