The Gamma Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing is delighted to present our FIRST Member Spotlight of the 2025-2027 biennium, Dr. Kylie Padron Newsom ✨

Dr. Newsom is a visionary nurse leader, researcher, and Past President of Gamma Mu Chapter. Earlier this year, she received the Leadership Education Grant from the Sigma Foundation to attend Sigma’s 36th International Nursing Research Congress in Seattle, Washington. During her time at the conference, Dr. Newsom had the opportunity to network with Sigma leadership/colleagues and present her work, “Resilience in Health Science Education: An Integrative Review.”

The Gamma Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing held its annual Induction Ceremony on September 7, 2025, at CU Nursing (Greenville). Dr. Margaret Ann Wetsel, Professor, Emerita, at Clemson University School of Nursing and Past President of Gamma Mu Chapter served as the event’s keynote speaker.

Congratulations to all of our new inductees! We are so proud of you 🐯💜

Meet our Guest Speaker 🩺

Dr. Flores-Harris is a registered nurse with experience in clinical, academic, and business settings. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in nursing from Clemson University and remains loyal to her Clemson Tigers! She received her Doctoral degree focusing on Nursing Education Leadership from American Sentinel University. She is a Certified Nurse Educator through the National League for Nursing (NLN).

Maria has served in clinical roles in geriatric and medical-surgical settings and academic nursing roles including faculty and director of practical nursing and registered nursing programs. She is presently the President and Owner of Academic Partners Consulting, an educational consulting business, and works with KeithRN as their nurse education consultant.

Her areas of interest and expertise are evidence-based teaching strategies, learning science, and academic integrity. She travels throughout the United States and overseas, presenting at educational conferences and workshops.

In her personal time, Maria enjoys reading, traveling with her husband, and doing just about anything with animals. She currently has four feline and two canine children who are all rescues and hopes to add more to her growing farm in Edgefield, South Carolina. She is passionate about advocating for the rights of those who cannot speak for themselves, and that includes animals.
