Barry was born and raised in Greenville, MS, where he graduated from Greenville High School in 1972. He then went on to complete his Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree at Louisiana State University in 1976. While at LSU, he was a member of Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) Fraternity. He then returned to the MS Delta to complete his Master’s of Business Administration degree at Delta State University. After completing his Master’s degree, he continued the legacy of the family owned men’s wear store, J’s Hub, with his mother and father, Julius and Vivian Piltz, in Greenville, MS.
Barry was a well known and loved business owner in Greenville. He was dedicated to his customers and employees at J’s Hub, where he worked until a week before he passed. His business was not only his vocation but his advocation, as well.
Barry was a member of the Hebrew Union Congregation for over forty years, where he served as a president, board member, and the chairman of the cemetery. He was also a very active member of the Greenville community. He was a member of a multitude of organizations, including the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Downtown Historic Association.
Barry was a loving, caring, and devoted father, grandfather, and friend. When not at the store, you could find him playing golf, cheering on the LSU tigers, or spending time with his son, grandchildren, and Susan McCreary, who became a very loving and devoted friend to him. In addition to being known for his wittiness, stubbornness, kindness, and fine southern gentleman ways, he was famous for being fashionably late. The thing he loved being known for most was being “Papa Bear” to his two grandsons, Ayers and Levi Piltz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Vivian Piltz.
He is survived by his son, Austin (Emalee) S. Piltz, and two grandsons, Ayers M. Piltz and Levi S. Piltz.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hebrew Union Congregation.
