We are still fondly reflecting on our experience as a charity organization at the BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament last week! Our staff, including Libby (not pictured), had the best time!

In the spirit of serving as one of the Upstate charities at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX, we wanted to share one of the signs we created for the event. We're going to try and get it signed by Bill Murray this weekend as he finishes out the tournament! 🤞

We are thrilled to be among the Upstate charities represented at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX. While the weekend is filled with golf festivities, the impact goes far beyond the course. If you’re at the Thornblade Club this weekend, be sure to look for our name represented on the Birdies for Charity board.

We each have the opportunity to choose our energy, including how we make others feel safe and respected. When we set the tone, we begin building the culture of the communities where we live, work, and learn. Let's do so with respect at the center.

Our executive director, Dr. Matthew Hammett, was honored to be invited to Washington, D.C., to participate in the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine meeting by Rian Lund Dahlberg and Kait Spear. The Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education specifically invited us to join a panel alongside Dr. Adam Levine from Johns Hopkins University and Ms. Mary Roy from Vanderbilt University, with Quinn Williams, General Counsel at the University of Wisconsin, moderating the discussion. The Action Collaborative is a leading consortium dedicated to preventing sexual harassment in higher education through rigorous research and policy. Dr. Hammett was chosen for this panel because of his executive leadership role with SCIP. Member organizations of the National Academies include Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, MIT, Cornell, Bucknell, and many other prestigious institutions.

South Carolina stands as a leader in preventing sexual violence, and we are proud to lead in creating safer college and university campuses. , our charter organization, has provided invaluable support for our statewide initiatives. The vision for SCIP was established by Rich Cosentino, and our goal is to ensure we continue developing a model that inspires other states as we advance conversations around sexual violence and, most importantly, reduce its incidence on college campuses.

This work is deeply meaningful to us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to crucial conversations about issues that profoundly impact members in our collegiate communities across the country.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month may be over, but prevention work doesn’t stop when April ends.

Creating safer campus communities takes ongoing education, collaboration, support, and action all year long. From bystander intervention and healthy relationship programming to survivor-centered support and campus partnerships, prevention happens every day.

At SCIP, we’re committed to helping colleges and universities across South Carolina strengthen prevention efforts beyond awareness months and into lasting cultural change.

Today's Sexual Assault Prevention Grant Spotlight is on Francis Marion University

Francis Marion University’s Office of Student Life utilized a SCIP grant to host creative, student-centered programming focused on raising awareness about sexual assault and promoting prevention on campus.

Students participated in a Denim Design Night, where over 30 students customized denim pieces in preparation for a Denim Day Fashion Show. The fashion show highlighted student creativity while also creating space for meaningful conversations around prevention, support, and available campus and community resources.

The event brought together partners including the P*e Dee Coalition, FMU Counseling and Testing Center, Campus Police, and SCIP, helping connect students to important education and support systems. Through engaging, hands-on experiences, these events encouraged open dialogue and reinforced FMU’s commitment to fostering a safer, more informed campus community.

Wear denim tomorrow. Make a statement. 👖

Observed each year during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Denim Day began as a response to victim-blaming and has grown into a global movement to support survivors and raise awareness about sexual violence.

We invite you to join us by wearing denim tomorrow as a visible show of support for survivors and a commitment to challenging harmful misconceptions. It’s a simple action that can help spark meaningful conversations across our campuses and communities.
