It's Giving Tuesday, and today, we're proud to share a major milestone we've been working on behind the scenes all year: the launch of the new Greenville County Animal Care Safe Start Program!

Safe Start is a compassionate new initiative designed to help families in crisis keep their pets with them by providing short-term boarding, expanding the No Empty Bowls pet food pantry, and offering essential medical care.

This program was made possible thanks to a generous private donor who wanted to make a real difference for pets and their people. All funding flows through Partners in Animal Care, and we've been honored to help bring this vision to life alongside the donor and the shelter.

Your Giving Tuesday donation helps make that possible 💕

🌟 Get ready for Giving Tuesday! 🌟

A global movement that unleashes the power of generosity around the world, and creates real, tangible change right here in our own community.

This Giving Tuesday, 02 December 🗓️ , your donation to Partners in Animal Care becomes a lifeline for the pets and families who rely on Greenville County Animal Care. Every dollar helps provide a second chance, care, enrichment, medical support, and hope to animals who often arrive with nothing but their need for compassion, as well as to community members in need.

🐾 This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference! 🐾

The animals of Greenville County feel your kindness with every donation — and so do we. As a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Greenville’s only open admission shelter Greenville County Animal Care, we are deeply grateful for every single donor who steps up, shares, gives, and believes in this mission.

Thank you for helping us create brighter futures, wagging tails, second chances, and full hearts.

Featured here are adoptable Bumblebee (left- who is extra sweet and gentle) and adoptable Dramallama (right- who is a loving good ball). The shelter is full, and this holiday season is a wonderful time to foster or adopt. 🩵

More specifics will be shared in the next few days about an incredible new program that thanks to our partnership with the shelter, as well as a very generous, caring donor, has turned an idea to make a difference into a reality.🎉 Stay tuned!

🚨 October Intake Numbers Are In 🚨

In the month of October, Greenville County Animal Care took in 336 dogs and 163 cats, for a total intake of 499 animals.

These intake numbers show that month after month, change is desperately needed.

As Greenville’s only open admission shelter, Greenville County Animal Care needs our support!

They need our help to:
⭐️ Raise awareness of who they are and what they do for our community
⭐️Raise awareness and funds for their Pet Food Pantry, which is 100% donation based and supports families in need, with the goal of helping pets stay in their homes and out of the shelter.
⭐️Break the misunderstanding so many people have about open admission shelters vs limited intake shelters. Open admission shelters often get unfairly and inaccurately judged because of misunderstandings and incorrect assumptions, when they deserve the exact opposite.
⭐️Advocate for the dogs and cats in the shelter who are so deserving of homes.
⭐️Help spread the word to get more fosters, adopters, volunteers, donors, people participating in the Doggy Day Out program, etc.

The numbers to truly celebrate for October are:

• Adopted: 149 dogs and 108 cats 🎉
• Rescued: 67 dogs and 5 cats
• Returned to Owner (RTO): 43 dogs and 5 cats

These numbers aren’t just data points. They’re real animals who walked through the doors with nowhere else to go. Seniors. Strays. Owner surrenders. Lost pets. Litters. Medical cases. Dogs and cats who need space, compassion, safety, and time—and the shelter is bursting at the seams trying to give them exactly that.

With the holiday season approaching, this is an amazing time to step up and make a difference in whatever way you can. ✨

🐾💛 Meet Thor — A Senior Superstar! 💛🐾

In honor of Adopt a Senior Pet Month, we’re shining the spotlight on one of GCAC’s senior dogs, Thor.

Don’t let the “senior” label fool you—Thor is bursting with life, personality, and adventure. This handsome Shepherd mix is the full package: athletic, goofy, confident, and always ready to explore the world nose-first. If there’s a trail to sniff or a tennis ball to chase, Thor is your guy.

Thor’s the kind of dog who knows what he wants (usually a treat… or two). He’s also dog-friendly and never turns down a good game, a cuddle session, or a sunny spot to relax in.

As a senior, Thor is looking for a home where he can enjoy his golden years with companionship, playtime, and tons of love.

Seniors like Thor often get overlooked, but they are truly some of the most rewarding pets you’ll ever meet—and Thor is no exception.💔

⚡ Thor’s Quick Facts:
• Age: Senior superstar
• Energy-o-Meter: 10/15
• Leash Manners: Strong pull
• Tricks: Sit
• Toy Preference: Tennis balls + YOU
• Personality: Athletic, Confident, Enthusiastic, Goofy, Playful
• Love Language: Loving pets, yummy treats, fun toys, and playtime
• Fun Fact: Thor is a sweet, high-energy boy who lives life joyfully and wholeheartedly.

If you’re ready to make a senior dog’s dreams come true, and bring home a loyal, hilarious, big-hearted companion, Thor is waiting.

Give a senior the golden years they deserve. 💕

🐾 Day 3 of Shelter Playgroup Alliance Training — Let the Play Begin! 🐶🎉

This is what all the learning has been leading up to — safe introductions and PLAYGROUPS!

Because of YOUR donations, the team at Greenville County Animal Care spent Day 3 putting new skills into action:

✨ Introducing dogs to one another safely
✨ Watching body language and energy levels
✨ Redirecting excitement to keep play positive and fun

And now… it’s time to PLAY!

Dogs are making new friends, stretching their legs, and enjoying enrichment that reduces stress and helps them show their best selves to adopters.

Your support made this three-day Shelter Playgroup Alliance training, and the online training prior to it, possible.

Your generosity is bringing daily playgroups to the shelter — giving dogs joy, confidence, and connection during what can be a stressful time. This is huge!!

One of the key initiatives we’ve been proud to support this year is shelter enrichment. These programs, including the daily playgroup, will directly benefit and improve the lives of shelter dogs (and cats!) in so many ways 🥹.

Thank you for helping dogs be dogs. 💚 Thank you for making play possible.

This is worth celebrating. Please share!

🐾 Day 2 of Shelter Playgroup Alliance Training! 🐕‍🦺

Today’s focus? Setting dogs up for success. 💚

Thanks to the support of Partners in Animal Care and their donors, our team spent Day 2 learning how to give every dog the best possible playgroup experience by:

✨ Reading and understanding canine body language
✨ Recognizing stress signals and early signs of overstimulation
✨ Using positive redirection before dog-to-dog introductions ever happen

Playgroups aren’t just about dogs meeting dogs — they’re about creating safe, structured, and positive social experiences that build confidence and trust. By understanding what each dog is communicating, we can help them feel secure, have fun, and truly enjoy their time in playgroup.

We’re thrilled to add these skills to our toolbox as we work toward daily playgroups for every dog who loves to play!

Stay tuned for Day 3 — we can’t wait to share what’s next! 🐾💚

🚨 September Intake Numbers Are In 🚨

In just one month, Greenville County Animal Care took in 307 dogs and 184 cats, for a total intake of 491.

It’s easy to think of these numbers as “good”, because the intake is lower than previous months, but even these intake numbers aren’t sustainable and show that change is needed.

The numbers to celebrate for September are:

• Adopted: 143 dogs and 108 cats (yay!!!) 🎉
• Rescued: 37 dogs and 11 cats
• Returned to Owner (RTO): 72 dogs and 14 cats

These numbers aren’t just data. They are dogs and cats who came through the doors with nowhere else to go. Seniors. Strays. Owner surrenders. Lost pets. Litters. Every single one of them needs space, care, hope—and the shelter is overflowing trying to give it.

⭐️ We need adopters.
⭐️ We need fosters.
⭐️ We need people willing to share, donate, speak up, and step in.

If you’ve been thinking about fostering or adopting—this is your sign.

You can change everything for one shelter pet.
