Thank you to everyone who helped renovate our kitchen at Soteria House for Women. From the architecture plans to kitchen utensils to meals for our ladies, our community of support went above and beyond to create a wonderful home for women getting out of prison.

Thank you.

Incredible Panel discussion last night after our Reentry Simulation. Check out this clip where Jeremy Windle, Allison Elder, and Caroline Caldwell discuss myths about men and women with criminal backgrounds with our founder, Jerry Blassingame.

Big thanks to everyone who came out to participate and to Westminster Presbyterian for hosting us.

WALK IN THE SHOES OF MEN & WOMEN JUST RELEASED FROM PRISON.

Find out first hand the realities and challenges of reentering society after incarceration by attending a Reentry Simulation hosted by Soteria Community Development Corporation and Westminster Presbyterian Church. You will receive the profile of an individual upon release from prison and then navigate through the various requirements, realities, and challenges that individuals typically face. By experiencing these complex obstacles and barriers, we not only gain visibility into the individuals perspectives but also discover innovative ways to help these individuals succeed.

For this reentry simulation, we are thrilled to include a panel discussion so that our guests can also learn from the perspectives of lawyers, mental health professionals, and probation officers. Allison Elder of Time Served, Caroline Caldwell of New Mind Health & Care, and Jeremy Windle from SC Probation, Pardon & Parole will unpack the issues with our founder, Jerry Blassingame.

Have you been arrested or convicted of a crime?

SOTERIA IS OFFERING FREE RECORD EXAMINATIONS TO CELEBRATE SECOND CHANCE MONTH

Are you having a hard time getting a job, furthering your education, and / or obtaining housing because of your record?

April is 2nd Chance Month, and Soteria is celebrating the men and women we serve who are working to thrive after incarceration by serving our community of previously incarcerated individuals with the opportunity to find out if their records may be expunged.

Expungements remove the record of an arrest or conviction so that the offense no longer appears on a criminal record/rap sheet. Once records are expunged, citizens are able to apply for education, employment, and housing that they could not access with their criminal backgrounds. The expungement process can be overwhelming and confusing for those who may be eligible. People need to understand the requirements for eligibility, the process for obtaining expungements, and the costs associated.

On average, an expungement costs $310 per charge, and most individuals face several charges.

Soteria is hosting a Record Examination Day on April 9th from 9am - 4pm that is free to the public. We will start the process to find out if records are eligible for expungement, and for those who qualify, we will help to pay for up to 50% of fees through our Expungement Fund.

Help us spread the word to anyone who may be eligible.
