During the grand opening of Greenville Technical College’s Center for Welding & Automation Excellence (CWAE), the Greenville Tech Foundation Board Chair Chad Cousins shared what this new facility and the support behind it mean for our students, our workforce and the future of our region.

The 44,000-square-foot CWAE was made possible through the commitment of donors, industry partners and community supporters who believe in investing in education and creating opportunities for students.

For many Greenville Technical College students, unexpected financial hardships aren't just temporary setbacks—they can become barriers to earning a degree.

Through the STAR Center, students facing unexpected hardships can access emergency financial assistance, groceries from the Caring Corner Food Pantry, and other essential resources that help them stay enrolled and focused on their education.

Support may include:
🏠 Rental and housing assistance
💡 Past-due utility bills
🩺 Medical expenses
🚗 Transportation assistance
📚 Books and class supplies
🥫 Food, toiletries, and other essentials

The need is real. Greenville Technical College's participation in the survey found that 56% of students experienced at least one form of basic needs insecurity—including food insecurity, housing insecurity, or homelessness.

🎓 No student should have to choose between meeting basic needs and completing their education.

Today, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of Purple Heart recipients and all who have served our nation.

Military service doesn't end with the uniform. Many veterans continue serving their communities through education, leadership, and mentorship.

For Jalen W., a Machine Tool Technology student, scholarship support has made that journey possible:

"This scholarship has lifted a major financial burden, allowing me to focus on my studies without the constant worry of paying for school. It’s brought hope and relief to both me and my family. As a veteran and a volleyball coach, I’m proud to continue serving by mentoring and giving back to my community."
