WHEN A GENERATION TOLERATES SIN, THE NEXT WILL CELEBRATE IT
J.C. Ryle’s powerful statement reminds us that what one generation tolerates, the next may embrace as normal. When sin is no longer confronted, biblical truth is compromised, and holiness is neglected, people gradually lose their sense of right and wrong.
The danger is not merely that sin exists, but that it becomes accepted, defended, and eventually celebrated. What previous generations recognized as disobedience to God may become acceptable to those who no longer take His Word seriously.
Scripture warns us, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20).
The Church must never exchange biblical convictions for cultural acceptance. Christians are called to speak the truth in love, practice holiness, and faithfully teach the next generation the whole counsel of God.
Parents must teach it. Churches must preach it. Believers must live it.
Let us not be the generation that compromises the truth, but the generation that faithfully proclaims and preserves it for those who will follow.
