Greenville Literacy Association’s mission is to enrich our community by increasing the literacy and employability of our citizens. GLA is a not for profit, charitable organization formed under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. Donations to Greenville Literacy Association are tax-deductible as charitable contributions for US federal income tax purposes. GLA promotes an inclusive and welcoming environment

for all. We strive to be a community where people of different cultures, intellectual positions, and lifestyles can come to learn and give back to the community. GLA provides educational opportunities and support services on an individual basis including participants with disabilities such as learning, physical, emotional and mental. Through local partnerships, we do our best to provide wrap-around services to encourage stabilization, including referrals to partner agencies, based on students’ needs and goals. Carla’s lifelong dedication to education makes her a wonderful addition to our board. As a retired higher education educator specializing in adult education, she understands firsthand the life-changing impact of learning and the importance of connecting adult learners with opportunities to take their next step toward a better life.

As Carla shared, “Education is life-changing, and GLA plays a vital role connecting members of our community to their ‘next step’ on the road to a better life.”

Fall semester is officially underway at Greenville Literacy Association!

Our students are back in the classroom, and we couldn’t be happier to have the halls buzzing again with students, instructors, conversation, and energy.

At GLA, this is what we live for — creating a place where adults can learn, grow, build confidence, and take the next step toward their goals. Whether they’re working toward a GED, improving their English, building career skills, or preparing for what comes next, every student who walks through our doors is moving forward.

Here’s to a new semester full of learning, new goals, new opportunities, and plenty of moments worth celebrating. Welcome back, GLA students! We’re so glad you’re here. 💚

As I reflect on my 5th book sale, I just want to say thank you.

Whether you were a volunteer, a sponsor, a shopper, a GLA staff member, a donor, or one of the many people and businesses who helped along the way, you were a part of it.

It really does take a village, and mine is pretty good!

We had another record-breaking year, and that could not happen without the support of so many people and places. There are so many people who give their time, energy, money, books, and just plain hard work to make this sale happen. I appreciate every single one of you.

We believe education is one of the things no one can ever take away from you. That’s why we do what we do.

The proceeds from the book sale go directly back into GLA’s programs and our mission to increase the literacy and employability of all adult learners. And in the 25 years of this book sale, we have been able to do that tenfold.

But none of that happens without all of you.

So, from me and from GLA, thank you. Thank you for showing up, for working, for shopping, for giving, and for believing in what we do.

Jessica’s return reflects her continued dedication to GLA’s mission and to creating opportunities for adult learners across our community. She has also jumped in with both feet and is the Chair of our Development Committee.

Please join us in welcoming our 8 new board members:
Jessica Allendorf, Carla Warner, Scherron Campbell, Ali Webber, Tarsha Brown, Mary Lee, Raymond James, and Scherrie Campbell.

We recently gathered for New Board Member Orientation, welcoming new leaders to the GLA Board of Directors. We’re grateful for their commitment to our mission and excited for the experience, perspectives, and energy they bring to GLA.

We’re excited to share some BIG news! 💚

Greenville Literacy Association has been awarded a $100,000 grant from SC Student Loan Corporation through its philanthropy, Power:Ed, to expand our College & Career Pathway framework and strengthen workforce and postsecondary opportunities for adult learners across the Upstate.

This investment will help us connect more adult learners to personalized career coaching, education and training opportunities, and pathways to meaningful employment and long-term economic mobility.
