The Beeland Park historical markers were dedicated in a lovely ceremony yesterday! Thank you to everyone who attended including special guests Mayor Jae'Ques Brown, County Commissioner Jesse McWilliams, City Councilman Joseph West, Sheriff David Scruggs, and Rev. John Girdley.

GCS President Jan Autrey Newton summed up her remarks beautifully by saying, “History lives through memory, through storytelling, and places such as this. By dedicating these historical markers, we ensure that future generations will know what happened here, why it mattered, and why it should never be forgotten. May the markers stand for generations as a source of remembrance, education, and inspiration.”

Come visit soon!

Oh, Happy Day! Greenville Camellia Society President Jan Newton (fourth from the right front in picture) is thrilled to announce the placement of two handsome historical markers at Beeland Park which she obtained through the Alabama Tourism Department. The markers highlight the Beeland Park Camellia Gardens, the Greenville Men's Camellia Society, the registered camellias of Butler County, and the rock wall at Beeland Park. Newton said, “Our Society is so proud to have the markers installed. They are our gift to the City of Greenville and to the people of Butler County, and to all the visitors to Beeland Park. Everyone is invited to the official unveiling on Friday, May 29th at 10:00 in the morning. We look forward to seeing you then!”

Did you know that today is International Tea Day? Did you also know that tea is made of camellia sinensis leaves? It’s National Tea Day in the United Kingdom today, too. Celebrated on April 21, 2026, it honors Britain's favorite beverage with the theme "Brew More. Do More.". The day, often coinciding with Queen Elizabeth II's birthday, encourages enjoying tea, hosting tea parties, and exploring new blends. It is a day for tea lovers to celebrate tea's cultural significance and variety. Have you had your camellia beverage today? Enjoy your favorite tea and celebrate the amazing camellia sinensis!
