During the fall of 1793 and spring of 1794 General Anthony Wayne erected a fort and named it “Greene Ville” in honor of General Nathaniel Greene his friend and fellow officer in the Revolutionary War. The celeb

rated “Treaty of Greene Ville” was signed here in 1795. The fort was burned in 1796 and the original plot of the present City of Greenville was laid out on this site in 1808.

Community Event Honoring Flag Day with Flag Swap

Fort GreeneVille Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution would like to announce the 4th annual community event commemorating Flag Day. Flag Day is observed on June 14 to honor and commemorate the adoption of the American flag which occurred on June 14, 1777 by the Second Continental Congress.

On Thursday, June 11, Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR will be accepting tattered, retired US flags at two Darke County locations from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Starting at 4:30pm, drop off retired flags and free US flags will be given in exchange while supplies last (one per household). Along with the US flags, handheld America 250 flags from DAR will be given while supplies last.

The drive thru locations will be outside Ansonia American Legion Post 353 in Ansonia and Zechar-Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville.

Once the event is over, all retired flags will be disposed of properly.

Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR would like to thank Greenville VFW Post 7262, Greenville American Legion Post 140, and Ansonia American Legion Post 353 for donating new US flags for this year’s Flag Day event. Please fly your flag proud and honor the 250th anniversary of the United States.
