A new school year means new classes, new experiences, new friendships—and sometimes new pressures. If you’ve chosen abstinence, here are 5 tips to help you stay committed to your decision all year long:

1. Remember your values. ❤️
When pressure comes your way, remind yourself why you made the choice to wait. Your values can help guide your decisions when emotions or circumstances make things difficult.

2. Focus on your goals. 🎯
Keep your future in mind! Whether you’re working toward better grades, a dream career, a sport, or personal growth, don’t let temporary pressure distract you from the person you’re becoming.

3. Speak up and speak out. 🗣️
You don’t have to be embarrassed about your decision. Be confident in communicating your boundaries. Saying “no” is a complete sentence—and you deserve relationships where your choices are respected.

4. Make new friends. 🤝
Surround yourself with people who encourage you to be your best. The right friends won’t pressure you to compromise your values—they’ll respect your boundaries and support your goals.

5. Stand your ground. 💪
There may be moments when it feels easier to go along with the crowd. Remember: you don’t have to change your values to fit in. Staying true to yourself is a sign of strength, confidence, and self-respect.

It’s simple. When we respect reality, we can live free from the consequences that come from at-risk behaviors. Our goal for our students is that they would have the freedom to pursue the goals and dreams they have for their future 💚

The divide between SRR (risk reduction) and SRA (risk avoidance) education is significant. Those who are pro-SRR will often ask why we don’t teach certain topics, but research supports that our primary prevention approach is very effective at reducing at-risk behaviors in our students.

We believe, and the data proves, that students can and will make good decisions for their health and future so we don’t have to settle for risk-reduction. We can teach our students that it’s possible to avoid the risk all together.

In addition to avoiding the risk, we teach our students important health information, positive character traits, the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, how to set boundaries, and the meaning of consent.

It is possible to teach kids and teens age-appropriate content that empowers them to make informed decisions for their own health and wellbeing without having to be graphic or normalize at-risk behaviors.

📚 Parents, have you checked what’s really on your child’s bookshelf?

Many popular books have cute, innocent covers and are marketed toward younger audiences, yet contain explicit adult content.

In our latest blog, one of our educators Libby Olson shares a classroom conversation that sparked an important question: Are parents aware of the content in their children’s books?
