Last week, educators and teaching artists came together for the annual SmartARTS Institute, a week of learning, collaboration, and creativity that sets the stage for an inspiring school year ahead.

SmartARTS, a partnership between the Metropolitan Arts Council and Greenville County Schools, equips teachers and artists with the tools to integrate the arts into everyday learning, creating richer, more meaningful classroom experiences for students across our community. Through this collaboration, the arts become a powerful way to deepen understanding, spark curiosity, and encourage creative problem-solving.

We’re grateful to every teacher, teaching artist, and partner who invested their time, ideas, and passion this week. We can’t wait to see the incredible learning that grows from these connections during the coming school year.

Each Summer the SmartARTS Integration Training Institutes are held at the Fine Arts Center on the campus of Wade Hampton High School where teachers are paired with their teaching artists and plan actual units they will team-teach in the upcoming school year.

Participants also take immersion sessions in each of the five art forms - dance, theater, visual arts, creative writing, and music.

MAC’s partnership with SmartARTS connects students, artists, and teachers to deeper learning and self-awareness through integrating the arts with all areas of education.
