A lifelong resident of the town, Jay was a beloved student athlete who served as Captain of the Hockey Team and considered by all to be a warm, witty, kind, and charismatic member of the student body during his four years at Smithfield High School. Following graduation, Jay spent a year in the corps cadets program at Norwich University, before transferring to the University of Rhode Island where h

e was pursuing a degree in Business. In 2001, during his Junior year, Jay was the victim of a devastating motor vehicle accident, breaking the hearts of all those who enjoyed the blessing of knowing his vibrant, loving, generous soul. In 2002, countless friends and family banded together to create the Jay Lawrence Foundation, which is determined to honor its namesake's unflinching spirit, infectious energy, and incredible passion for life. A hugely successful Memorial Golf Tournament anchors the organization's fundraising efforts. Since it's founding, the Jay Lawrence Foundation has awarded college scholarships to over 80 Smithfield High School graduates.
