Upstate Volunteer Administrators Network

Upstate Volunteer Administrators Network In 2021, Upstate Volunteer Administrators Network (UVAN) formed to support leaders in volunteer resource management in Upstate South Carolina.

Upstate Volunteer Administrators Network (UVAN) is a professional organization offering resource and skill development to Upstate SC leaders in volunteer resource management. Formerly named the Upstate Chapter of the SC Association for Volunteer Administration (USCAVA). USCAVA began in 1976 as a professional organization to serve volunteer administrators. Over time, the organization grew to serve

Greenville, Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties and boasted a considerable membership. However, in December 2020 the statewide organization, South Carolina Association of Volunteer Administrators (SCAVA) became defunct as it shifted to a peer network under TogetherSC. This left the future of USCAVA uncertain as it no longer had a parent corporation or qualified as affiliate status. Fortunately, officers and members of USCAVA saw the value in continuing with a network for volunteer managers in the Upstate. UVAN was formed with a mission to educate, inspire, promote and elevate the profession of volunteer management. Our new organization plans to offer regular meetings, host informal roundtable discussions, sponsor professional workshops and share resources. Community service agencies, hospitals and health care entities, educational facilities are some of the many organizations represented at UVAN.

USCAVA Story

The Upstate Chapter of the South Carolina Association for Volunteer Administration, otherwise known as USCAVA serves the upstate of South Carolina, specifically Greenville, Spartanburg, York, and Cherokee counties. USCAVA, the oldest SCAVA affiliate (South Carolina for Volunteer Administration), was organized in 1976 as a professional organization for volunteer administrators in Greenville County.

USCAVA offers a resource network and skill development opportunities for both new and experienced administrators. Members also benefit from the informal exchange of ideas and the supportive atmosphere of USCAVA. Round table discussions cover such areas as legislative issues, teen volunteer programs, and the profession and future of Volunteer Administration.

In addition to regular meetings, USCAVA sponsors professional workshops on issues regarding volunteer administration. Volunteer recruiting and motivation, time and stress management, media relations, and conflict resolution are just a few examples of programs that have been offered in recent years.

Community service agencies, hospitals, and educational facilities are some of the organizations represented in USCAVA. Please contact us at Becky Clement at [email protected] for more information.
