The fabulous new documentary short, “North Star” had its Ohio Premiere at the Cleveland International Film Festival. It will be shown at Wayne Theater in Greenville on July 21, during “Annie Oakley Days” and then all the time at Garst Museum and The National Annie Oakley Center. We can’t wait!

Thanks to Bryn Silverman and many years of research & sparkly conversations at Garst Museum, the film North Star will premiere !!

North Star reclaims Annie Oakley’s story from the canon of misrepresentation that has come to define her legacy, peeling back the curtain to reveal three researchers in rural Ohio who’ve spent decades unearthing her true story.

"Not guilty as to knitting".

My dear Mr. Conning Tower Man:

What did I hear you say? "She's a little white haired lady who wears spectacles and knits". I am guilty as to the first two charges owing to two trains trying to pass on the same track, but did not succeed. My hair turned white in seventeen hours from the injuries received, and the result was five operations. That was in 1901; and in 1911, blood poison caused by infection from a slight operation by one of the best known specialists in the country. Four days with a temperature one hundred and seven; the result, right eye affected so as to impair sight for reading fine print or doing fancy work, of which I am very fond."

Not guilty as to knitting. I graduated from the knitting school at the age of eight years. That was when I started to shoot. Since then I have not handled the knitting needle. So your correspondent... could not see at close range when he mistook the embroidering for knitting.

Excerpt of letter in the NY Tribune, February 8, 2017, signed Annie Oakley.

Annie by the numbers: 99 years ago, Annie Oakley and husband Frank Butler passed away, 18 days apart, after 50 years of marriage. They are buried 8 miles north of Greenville OH. Frank, visiting niece Fern in Michigan, died on November 21, with the death certificate listing 'senility'. Annie's remains were cremated.
